Thread: News under wraps ?

When was the last time the club issued an actual match preview that wasnít just a uni student with no clue regurgitating stats that can be found easily on the league website? One showing team news, players unavailable for whatever reason, quotes from the manager or a player etc.

We feel as though we are losing touch with the club.

Surprised the local media did not do an interview with the new manager, they were full of speculation as to who it might be.
3 points for my birthday today please!!!

Just to be clear, BBC Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire Live journalists did have access to Chris Todd.
    Severn Sport did not.

Mainly due to the fact that the Club know that most of the "news" which appears on Severn Sport written by one of their journalists with regards to Gloucester City, is usually either complete fabrication or guess work and the Club is rarely approached for comment.

This could be highlighted by a few incidences in recent weeks regarding transfers and such, particularly where said journalist wrote about the number of applications received by the Club in the wake of Chris leaving the Club. The article was written from a position which intimated some form of substantiated knowledge however this is not the case and was actually completely made up.

It's this sort of lazy journalism which gives Severn Sport a bad name and undermines the good work that Ryan Butler and his other journalists do in reporting on all sport from around the county.

It also reflects the breakdown in relationship which has been well documented in private correspondence between the two organisations and something I won't delve into here.

It is not uncommon for Football Clubs to choose which media outlets to work with and which ones to not.

We have a good relationship with members of BBC Gloucestershire, Points West, Midlands Today and Gloucestershire Live. Just unfortunately, due to one member of their media team, not Severn Sport hence why they were refused access.

Would be good mind if BBC Gloucestershire gave us as much coverage as most other BBC local stations.
BBC Northants have a sports show after matches, they do interviews with the managers of Northampton, Kettering, Brackley, Corby and Rushden and Diamonds every week. Weíre lucky if we can even get them to give out our score, and when they do itís often wrong.

Maybe it’s a subject that can be raised at the Fans Forum. It would be beneficial to us all to here both sides of the story. ( without it becoming a us and them slanging match).

Let’s not forget everyone helping to run the clubs do so on a voluntary basis.Maybe its time hatchets were buried and some of the work taken off the board and things go back to as they were. I totally appreciate that our “ old press gang had their own reasons to stop doing it” but now is the time to help and not bicker amongst ourselves.

Don't go there Charlie, you'll end up banging your head against a brick wall. Basically it boils down to the fact that the station's sports are run by Robins and when challenged they hide behind 'policy'. Which they wrote in the first place.

Such a shame, SS are fans of the club who provide a different angle to mainstream reporting that we get (and are grateful for), more feature based and perhaps provocative at times, but ask a lot of the questions us fans are asking between ourselves.

I think it would benefit everyone if bridges were mended.
