I just want a little historical help.
I visited Horton Road in 1974 for an FA Cup or FA Trophy match. I think it was against Cinderford, might have been Barry Town (I just seem to remember seeing Barry sometime that year) or it could have been Cheltenham.
I was in conversation with someone about this single visit to Horton Road and it's now bugging me as to who the opposition might have been. No reason - it's just one of those things that annoy you when you can't remember.
It was a night match so must have been a replay and I was primarily visiting to have a look at the lottery set up which at the time was one of the best in the Country, and stayed on for the match in the evening.
Has anyone got records that might confirm when it was (datewise) and against whom? Of course what might confuse things if we played all three in the Cup that year, all of which had replays.

The nearest fixture to 1974 that comes close to your enquiry was in season 1973-74 when City played Stonehouse away in the FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round (score 1-1) on Saturday 15 September 1973 which was replayed Wednesday 19 September 1973 (score 0-1).
City team that evening: Stow, Wixey, Lewis, Lobban, Biggart, Williams, Croft, Gardner, McCool, Foxwell, Bird, Hargreaves.
Could this be the one?
There was a Northern Senior Professional Cup Final against Cheltenham Town in April 1974 that was played at Horton Road which surely was an evening game, City losing 1-4.

Maybe it was a league match then. It's annoying me but I do know roughly the time as it co-incided wwith when I was at Swindon.
The date would have been August or September 1974
Do we have year by year, match by match breakdown of league fixtures anywhere?

But the name Foxwell was in the team posted in this thread.
I presume it was Dougie, I grew up watching him. He was one of my favourate players and later I got to know him quite well.
He played skittles for the "Stadium Men", I started "Sticking up" at Horton Road for this team. Later in the mid to late 80's I became a player for this skittles team and Dougie was still playing Skittles and football for the City.
I spent quite a lot of time at Horton Road, watching the City and "Sticking up" etc, I think I got about £5 - £7 each match, which was good money then, until it was overtaken by my Sunday (early am) paper round where I earn't £11 - £14.
Memories of another time......a simpler time.......but for me it was still a "Yellow & Black" time.

I visited Horton Road in 1974 for an FA Cup or FA Trophy match.
The only FA Cup game played at Horton Road that year would have been against Merthyr Tydfil (City won 3-2 for those interested). As for the trophy there were no games at Horton Road that year due to being knocked out at the first hurdle at Trowbridge.
