Am I the only person who is a little concerned about one aspect of Kevin Sawyer's game?

I have seen him play for Salisbury and Cirencester and been impressed; but in both the Tigers' games I've seen this season he has rushed from his line into a crowd of players near the edge of the penalty and then missed his punch (by several feet at Supermarine). In that game and against Halesowen when he raced out of the area to kick clear (a bit more often than left me comfortable) his kicking of the loose ball was dreadful. I've not worried so much about a Tiger's keeper's kicking in open play since Ryan Gannaway departed.

I accept without reservation that he has the talent to be the much quoted, "best keeper in the league". Is the above a result of a lack of judgment, or lack of confidence in his defenders?

As I said I have only seen the Supermarine and Halesowen games, I wonder what are the veiws of those who have seen more.

Thats the one thing that does concern me about him and I'd urge him to stay on his bloody line and let the blokes in front of him sort it out, but then what do I know ;)

sorry, my hand slipped on the keyboard and I accidentally pressed post before I could finish the sentence. Haven't been able to get back on since.

What I meant to say was nothing in this post do I disagree with, but have only seen two games Halesowen and Swindon yet would also like to point out that Kev is still the best keeper I've seen at the club for as long as I can remember.

Yes let's wait for Hamblin, Tomkins and Rose to get back, then we will see what a great 'keeper he is. We haven't got our 1st choice defence in front of him.

As for the coming out for clearances, punches etc, I don't know, maybe it is a confidence thing, at the end of the day though he has a job to do just like the other 10 players, its just he ain't got anybody behind him to clear up the mess when he makes a mistake.

And when he does come steaming off his line im like the rest of you thinking "$hit I hope he gets to that" !

I know this is slightly off topic but I think we also have to stay realistic.
As far as im aware the back four is the only area that hasn't been strengthened from last season and from my research 68 goals were conceded.
There was many a post on here during the summer highlighting peoples concerns with the concensus being that at the very least City needed a new center half.
While some of those 68 goals may have been down to goalkeeping errors Im guessing more would have been down to poor defending ?
Whilst Im sure Kev will win games for city, and hopefully reduce the goals against, he ain't gonna be keeping clean sheets week in week out without decent performances from the guys in front of him.

Look at the season Kev won the league with Salisbury, 23 goals conceded and they brought in another keeper during pre-season, yet the two center halfs and probably more of that seasons back 4 are still playing today in the Blue square. What does that tell you about the quality of there back 4 ?

In contrast to that, look at Ciren last season, 76 goals conceded and Kev still recieved Supporters Player of the Year and the sponsors player of the year award for the most MOM's !

When your team isn't doing well I suppose its easy to find negatives in players games. If we were unbeaten and our strikers were banging in goals for fun then these types of concerns would probably not be a concern.

What is important is that we continue to get behind the team and hopefully all will come good

Yeah! The best grovel on here since .. I dunno. Since Shandy somehow failed to get that pint in last season. Great stuff :D

I have to agree with you entirely Bully. Not one word of your post would I change or re-order. Neither would I change the font. A perfect 10.

have to say i agree, we spent most of last season watching our defence throw 3 points away and bath go the blame some of which was fair, we still have the same defence but a better keeper, dont think we will throw 3 goal leads away now but not going to be rock solid either. Hamblin is not the finished article and seem to lose concentration throughout games and lets strikers ghost past him, and tomkins, although he seems to be getting better seems to have a howler a game. If honest would you have any of our defence if we could afford replacements, I think what tim is trying to do is strengthen the defensive side of our midfield with Rose etc to start defending higher up the pitch, at the moment it seems to be at the expense of quality supply to the front men.
