Rubbish result. We played well for maybe the last quarter of the game apart from that not a lot to say.
Jamie Price came on today seems like a good player, keep an eye on this one.

It wasn't all bad. First was a bad back header from Ricco, second was a good cross finished deep at the far post and third was a block on Kev's clearance and the guy had an open goal to aim at from 30yds.
When we came alive we were brilliant, we should've had a penalty too and a draw would've been fairer.
Listen to what Tim had to say here (http://www.cityladies.co.uk/spf/th010907.wav).

gloucester not yet playing to potential and its clear to see - players who were awesome last year have still not reached anywhere near the standard they were setting last year but its early days and by late september the squad should be up and playing near full potential. would have won if it wasn't for two unfortunate goals. last 20 minutes was what was required for the whole game. syko 25 yard strike which was expected along with a neat little finish by griffin. price looked a bright spark when he came on. city would have won if it wasn't for some unbelievable saves from the rugby keeper towards the end.

I asked Joycie!!:D
Not a bad attendance i suppose thought there would be a few more than Tuesday but I suppose the noviety may have worn off a touch for the neutral.

not as loud as they were on tuesday night Sam B because they only had about 15 minutes of football to cheer about today! louder than FGR?? it depends on occasion - FGR can be exceptional on our 'special nights' like the excrement city game last year for example but gloucester do get probably more singing - its too hard to call!

Well we were playing up the road at Shortwood (about a mile or so away i rucan?) and you could hear plenty of noise from there

You can not give teams a 3 goal start and expect to get something out of the game. The last 20 mins were good but we shouldn't have got ourselves in that position.
First goal was poor communication. Second goal we should have stopped the cross and then the player who scored got goal side of his marker. The third was just a comedy of errors with players getting in each others way. All of these goals could and should have been avoided.
Having said all that it is still early days and a couple of wins will put us right back up there :) Great noise from the T-end today - especially when we were searching for the equaliser.

And how many marks out of ten do we give the referee for this game? The one on Thursday night at the U18 game against Hereford was pretty good - 8/10.

He wasn't the greatest was he, although he knew Syko's name. I got a sequence of shots of Syko being manhandled and then tugged to the floor, as the FGR legend complained all I could hear was "I saw nothing Alex, I saw nothing".
I did!

Everything in our favour was against us."
"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."
No, it's the bad players who are a luxury."
"If we've got the ball, they can't score." (so don't give it away)
"We aim to equalise before the other team score. We should get our retaliation in first."
"Winning isn't everything, but wanting to win is."
"Ideas are very funny things. They never work unless you do."
Apologises to the late Danny Blanchflower.

Things could have so much different today, basic mistakes gave three goals away, but when we put them under pressure during the last 25 minutes they looked very ordinary and we were unlucky not to have come away with a point.
Lets hope we can do what Maidenhead did last season, they didn't have a very good start but found their form in the second half of the season and won the play offs.
I thought our new signing was impressive.

3 awful goals to conceed, and an awful first half.
Negatives:
-Big Kev had a mare by his standards, which was disappointing, as I know he's the best keepr in the league.
-All 3 conceeded goal were avoidable.
-Attendance was poor.
-Wilko, Whitts, and Allard struggled to make an impact.
-Welshy wasn't much kop at left back.
-The ref was a ****.
Positives:
-Jamie Price was top notch. Probably the best player on the pitch.
-Reidy looked good.
-Welshy going up front changed the game. Rugby had no answer to his aerial presence and it led to 2 goals, and if we'd taken our chances from his knock-downs, we'd have won.
-We showed our fighting spirit in the second half.
-Sam Ellis looked very competent and was unlucky not to equalise.
After 50 minutes, I felt we were useless and had no chance this season. But after 90, I realized that we have all the attributes to do really well, but we just have to harness them. The way we played for the last 30 minutes, no team in the league will live with us.
If we'd started with Welsh up front and Price at left back, I think we'd have won.
I'm content in knowing that Tim will have learned some big lessons from his starting 11 today, and won't make the same mistakes again.

You can't expect to win a game if you only turn up for the last 30 minutes. 1st half we were shocking, we could hardly string a pass together. Welsh looked knackered after 15 minutes, Allard was caught out of position all the time and Richards looked very uncomfortable. Once again we spent most of the 1st half whacking aimless longballs up to nobody, its got beyond frustating now. We have probably the best pitch in the league, lets try using it!
2nd half we started exactly the same way until Sykos great strike, then we started playing like the team we know we can be. We were unlucky not to get a draw or sneak a (undeserved) win with the pressure we put on them. Only a combination of some great goalkeeping, Rugby timewasting and terrible decisions from the ref and his completely incompetent linesman stopped us.
As for Price, he looks a cut above anything else we have at left back, composed and unlike our other defenders at present he looks to play the ball out rather than hoof it.
A game on paper we should have easily won, Rugby were not a good side and I think the fact that we were 3 nil down to them shows how poor we were.

We beat Rugby 3-2 at Meadow Park at the end of last season and I thought they were much more of a threat in that game than they were yesterday, yet this time they won.
Didn't someone once say that "Football's a funny old game!"

The difference between the two sides and the reason why Rugby won and we didn't.... the keepers...
The Rugby keeper must had saved at least three certain goals with great saves and dominant in his six yard box, Sawyer on the other hand was p### poor to say the least.... He should have called the defender for the first goal because it was going through and his ball only, the second he should have stopped before it got to the back post scorer anyway. The third you'd expect to see on the pitch next door or lower...
Certain penalty in the second half - the ref's head was on upside down. I reckon he had either a visibility or memory problems because he didn't book or warn the Rugby no9 who I lost count of how many fouls he committed, and his ten yards for a free kick... 4,5,6... yep that'll do Rugby
All in all it was Rugbys day - the ball always fell for them and luck was certainly on their side. Though Welsh played well all game especially up front which changed the game for City. The new kid looks very good on the ball, I reckon he'll play well with Mustoe in midfield when Buttery comes back
Probably quite an entertaining for a neutral... As a City fan - Noddy and Big Ears until the last 30mins...

I think the last 30 minutes could be a turning point, they lacked belief in the first hour and the goals dented their confidence, once we got the goal you could see the players starting to want the ball, and they were taking players on and winning tackles.
I think we will carry this belief on to the bromsgrove game and if we can get a result there will be no stopping us!
thought price looked a great find, strong tackles and useful balls out of defence to midfield/attackers feet rather than just aimless long balls.
