just read it and most of the comments are correct! 400 people in a 16000 seater would be ridiculous, and the match day costs for that stadium would be huge. we would have no source of revenue other than gate reciepts, and this just isn't the way forward! There are plenty of plots of land that the council could give us, and once we have that then the funding would be one hell of a lot easier! Don't bottle out on us now Parmjit and Glos City council!!

I think it's more of a short term suggestion rather than a long term one though. Also I think your point about having facilities like FGR's but from public money isn't really going to happen. If that were to ever happen then it would be developed long after we'd got the ground in place...

nobody expects everything to be in place straight away, however there needs to be the option of adding these things! there would be funding available! First and foremost we need a ground that is to the required standard, with a bar that would be a source of revenue. The rest is something that could be added bit by bit!

I too believe that the suggestion is for a short-term facility to get us back into the city a.s.a.p. I don't think it is in conflict with the main aim.

Agreed, this is only a suggestion in the short-term. However, if charity does begin at home, it would seem that GRFC have never been aware of this fact !
correct me if I am wrong, but I do not recall they have made a donation to this Club, sent sympathies etc....NO.
It is quite obvious they will never entertain this idea. I for one would not want to be there TOO long anyway. It would have brought football back into the City next season, but I cannot see it happening anyway. They would make the overheads of such an idea far to heavy for us to bear.
Now I fully understand why I shall always watch the wonderful game of football as opposed to what takes place at Kingsholm.
I understand Mr. Dhanda's motives, and he is to be applauded for trying to bring our Club back inside the City boundary but I think we will have to settle for a piece of land asap., then achieving the necessary funding.

I refuse to post on their forum, purely as some of them are utterly deluded. If they think that the support that city recieves sums up how many football fans there is in Gloucester then they really need a reality check.
No they havent helped city supporter, if you all remember I sent an email to the powers that be there (quite a few different folk) probably about 6 or 7 weeks ago now. Recieved diddly squat back from any of them. Waste of time bothering.
As for the whole groundsharing with "soccer" argument that the grass needs to be longer, the pitch will get ruined etc didnt Hull City, Bristol Rovers, Reading etc get promoted not too long ago???
Fair play to the support they recieve at present (thanks to Sky, the rugby world cup win etc). However it wasnt too long ago that they were struggling to get 6,000 in despite being in the premiership and we were getting 2,000 plus (Bishop auckland, Dagenham, Cheltenham ....) whilst still being in the southern league. Swings and roundabouts, every dog has their day and all that....
Personally as much as I'd love to watch city in Gloucester and as nice as Kingsholm is, I couldnt put up with the likely occurance of seeing a constant barrage of letters and emails from moaning peanut huggers in the Citizen every day.

Whilst any suggestion to help us return home to the City is welcomed, and should be carefully considered, for the reasons already stated I agree this option is really a non starter.
Although 'out of order' perhaps to include in this thread, but didn't I read sometime ago that the city was being given a vast sum of money from the government for regeneration , are there conditions as to how this money should be spent? would a sports stadium help to bring new life to the area?
Neil

You'd think so Smudge but it seems that that money is not for us as far as the GHURC goes now that the Rugby club aren't interested in the Railway Triangle!

Doesn't it just make you seeth, there has to be more than just Rugby played in this City. I have always felt that Gloucester is a poor second to lots of other Cities where sporting arena's are concerned.

If Mr Dhanda thought this was ever going to happen, I think he is probably as deluded as some of those poor souls on the X Factor.
I am not doubting his motives, he wants to get us back in the city, but that ain't the way dear chap.
Focus on the goal......land & new stadium

I'd prefer to keep playing our home games at FGR rather than move to a rugby stadium. Plus FGR's main stand hasn't got any posts propping it up, unlike Kingsholm's new 'super stand', so you might actually be able to see the pitch.
It's just more fuel for the rugby fans and their inability to express their thoughts about their own sport without comparing it to the national game.

Looks like its not happening anyway
Gloucester chairman Tom Walkinshaw has killed talk of his rugby club sharing Kingsholm with Gloucester City.
The beleaguered football club have lost the use of Meadow Park after it succumbed to heavy flooding for the third time in 10 years.
They are currently playing their home games in the British Gas Business Premier League at Forest Green Rovers' New Lawn.
The city's MP, Parmjit Dhanda, suggested that the football club become tenants of their rugby neighbours, a notion that has been backed by Gloucester City manager Tim Harris.
But Walkinshaw gave little credence to the idea.
"No-one has spoken to me about it, although it is an issue that has been raised in the past," he said.
"There have been major problems where football and rugby clubs have groundshare.
"But our position is 100 per cent clear. We are a rugby club and as such we have primary tenancy at Kingshom and we won't do anything to jeopardise that.
"We will do anything we can to help with their flooding problems.
"But there are no plans in place whatsoever for them to join with the rugby club."
When the South Stand development is complete, Gloucester's ground will hold 17,000 supporters, vastly exceeding Gloucester City's average attendance of around 350.

No real surprise but I appluad Parmjit for at least suggesting it and getting it out in the open. I don't mind being rejected if we aim high!

Gloucester chairman Tom Walkinshaw has killed talk of his rugby club sharing Kingsholm with Gloucester City.
Doesn't seem like it to me. Not based on the rest of the quote.
"No-one has spoken to me about it, although it is an issue that has been raised in the past," he said.
The fact that no-one has approached him doesn't mean that he wouldn't entertain the idea if they did.
"our position is 100 per cent clear. We are a rugby club and as such we have primary tenancy at Kingshom and we won't do anything to jeopardise that.
A temporary (or even permanent) groundshare with City would not jeopardise GRFC's primary tenancy at Kingsholm, and he can hardly imagine that it would, so I don't think that means anything.
"We will do anything we can to help with their flooding problems. But there are no plans in place whatsoever for them to join with the rugby club."
So there are no plans in place, I can't imagine anyone thought there were. Still doesn't mean that there might not be in the future.
I agree a Kingsholm groundshare isn't particularly likely, but I don't think today's article changes anything.

I knew it would never happen, but it was a feasible idea I suppose. The reaction from some of the Rugby fans has been very dissappointing though.

Perhaps they could use King George playing fields. There is plenty of parking for the 3 or 4 cars need to get all the fans there and they normally have an ice cream van for the half time refreshments. As long as they have no Sunday fixtures it shouldn't interfere with the local leauge stuff and you never know they may find a few more talented players.
This is one of the replies from someone! Just goes to show the ignorance of some people! Up until now i would never wish ill luck on any other city sports team, but **** them, i hope they go on a steady downwards spiral! Assholes!!

I am a bit surprised that your MP would come out with a statement like this, and raising hopes, without getting any substance as to the truth or viability to it. Oh he is a politician so I guess that sums that one up.
I can’t remember who tops the list of who we mistrust more MPs or estate agents. funny really one we trust to run the country and the other we trust with the most expensive thing we buy, says a lot I guess.
But you can’t blame the guy for trying. Maybe He just needs to give it a little more thought, before he talks to the press ?

There's about as much chance of City playing at Kingsholm as snow falling on Mercury.... I work less than fifty yards from the ground where natural sunlight is slowly disappearing behind the vast 7000 all seater(the size of Whaddon complete)main stand. I have a drink several times a week in The Jockey just across the road from the stadium.
In general no one around here knows where Meadow Park was, at what standard other than not being in the football league that City play at, who is current the manager, what FGR stands for, or where Whaddon Road is and what happens there... I know that's a slightly sarcastic evaluation but it ain't far from the truth. I don't reckon they'd allow MUFC to grace the Cherry and White turf.
Glos City AFC need to be back in, or close to the City. If we stay at FGR longer than necessary support will certainly dwindle once the novelity has worn thin - my journey is now 70miles return for a home game
City Councillors probably don't appreciate how central to the County Gloucester actually is, and how much and how many people use either football and rugby as a chance to get the whole family into town for various reasons. Shopping etc, etc, To be brutally honest Gloucester as a principal city should have the best of everything especially sports facilities, and it would do if a European counterpart... take a leaf out of Newports book I say and that's just Wales......

Parmjit Dhanda, as you all know is a very good friend of this Football Club, and I feel was only trying to look at an alternative to get us back into the city asap. However, with the way things are at Kingsholm, it was never going to be viable.
As Forest Fred says, the new stand at the Rugby ground blocks out the light to buildings around.
I still cannot understand with rules for just about everything these days, how on earth this structure was given the go ahead. Perhaps this Club with all it's money and following could have build a new ground at the Triangle, and we could have had their old one ! MINUS
THE UGLY NEW STAND.

That's a bit harsh Neil.
I think Reg would have at least put the idea of an ice cream van out to public consultation over a six month period (costing Tartaglia's thousands), including 'ice cream' roadshows visiting each of the deprived areas of the City, and information translated into 500 different languages, including Inuit.
This would be followed by a risk assessment to ensure that no-one could die by choking or accidentally falling asleep on an ice lolly and freezing to death. Finally he would need to check that there was a full range of ice cream colours, except white ;)

Yeah Parmjit has been very supportive and it's nice he's trying to help. You may disagree with him - but he deserves all our thanks for trying.
As to the negative comments from a few of the rugby fans - if Glos City were in the top 6 of the Premier league then what attendances would we get? More than 10,000? More than 15,000? Definitely. So don't make me laugh about Glos just being a rugby town. Football has always been bigger than rugby and always will be.

Sadly it is not Just Glos Matt, we have no chance in the west country as a whole. even if you was to put the two Bristol clubs, Swindle the team from WR, FGR, GCFC, and even as far down as Exeter & Torquay
I would think putting us all together we would still not come close to the big girls games attendances :tosser: in the west country.

I think that there are two things we are bad at in the west, football and music. Everything else, yes we can do. But not those two. And as long as we can not achieve excellance, in those, then we will never achive the fanbase that we desire!

Tsk! How about trip-hop? That was invented in Bristol, thanks to people like Massive Attack, Portishead and Tricky. Then there are those guitar geniuses The Blue Aeroplanes, who begat Strangelove and Dark Star.
In Gloucestershire there's EMF, [spunge] and 4Ft Fingers, and don't Kate from Spiritulaized and Richard Ashcroft live near Newent?
Then there's Muse, Reef and PJ Harvey further down South in Somerset and Devon. There's plenty of talent around . . .
