Whilst we are on subjects of best and most heartbreakin games, I thought it would be interesting to what people felt was the best goal they've seen scored.

Baylo scoring with a dipping volley against Waterlooville is a fave of mine (game played on a Sunday as our tennants (Newport played a FA Cup game on the Saturday)

Also a Brian Hughes diving header from the edge of the penalty area (funnily enough also against Waterlooville) in the infamous season when we lost out Farnborough on the last day.

The best goal I've ever seen scored has to go to Lance Morrison in the FA cup against worcester. Overhead bycicle cick, his foot had to be level with the cross bar when he connected with the ball (or that was the way I saw it from the seats in the stand). Worst Tony Cook, can't remeber who it was against but the ball hit his chest then seemed to take forever to roll over the line.

Hundreds of 'em. You always say, "That one would have graced Match of the Day", and then another comes along. Reidy's goal in the first game against Maidenhead, for instance. Alex Sykes always looks likely to score the next great goal.

From the annals of history, what about Chris Townsend away to Mile Oak Rovers ? He had outpaced everyone, including the Rovers goalkeeper and just as you thought it was beyond his control and going out for a goal kick, he shot from the most acute angle possible. He scored from a distance of about 15 yards when the ball was never more than six inches from the goal line.

Lance Morrison's goal is, of course, legendary. When he came to visit us, (Neil has the pic), a couple of seasons ago, about two hundred people congratulated him on the goal who had seen it years previously.

It's funny you should say that, it was against Bashley at home (we won 1-0) and I filmed it on my camcorder. I think I may still have the footage from the game somewhere and if I find it I'll put it online....

Neil, you should try and get as many Gloucester City video's as you can on the internet, it would refresh some distant and long lost memories.

The best goal I can remember has to be a toss up between Jamie Reid's corker against Maidenhead United on the first day of the season, Dave Wilkinson's screamer against Aylesbury United last season or Mike Fowler's Ricky Villa attempt against Hitchin?

Thats all I can remember at the moment.

I still think the best goal ever was Adie Mings' volley in our 4-0 win at Newport....

Adebowale's screamer at Cambridge city and Dale Watkins 30 yard lob against Cheltenham.

Mine would be Reidy's opening day corker against Maidenhead or Sykes's curler in the mud at Mangotsfield

...was it Burns who scored a 20 yd volley against Weymouth or KL at home (in the t-end rhs of the box...)? Matty's goal! ... Thommo in the 55-2 drubbing by Redditch(i think) - curled it in the other end from just outside the corner of the box - I was standing right behind him - it was a goal from the moment it left his foot.

I saw that. The ball was knocked back to him, and so he was in his own half !

Wilko's overhead goal against Salisbury at home last season frightened the cr*p out of 'em in their promotion season.Plus two top drawer one's against Tiv's home and away last season.

Best City goal I can remember goes way back to (I think) 1991 and was scored by Wayne 'bunter' Noble against Burton Albion at Meadow Park. he cut in off the wing deep in our own half and jinked past four players before sending in a shot from about 40 yards and way out on the left wing - some how it managed to curl while still going like a rocket. Top corner and absolutely top class.

Shame of it was there were only about 200 people there to see it - it was the same day as England playing in the Rugby World Cup back when we hosted the tournament.

Mind you there are lots of others - even when we've been crap we've scored some belters. And then there was that Dale Watkins' goal to beat the scum, the one that's probably made me the happiest. Despite lots of Alex Sykes efforts and Welsh's second at Mangotsfield I still think Jamie Reid's winner against Maidenhead will take some beating for strike of this season.

Depend's how you define best goal though - I still have very fond memories from the mid 90s of the Halesowen keeper kicking air to allow a very soft back pass trickle into the net in front of a very amused T-End.

My all time favourite City goal was Dale Watkins in the last couple of minutes in a 2.1 win against the scum :D

Also remember Hoskins hitting one in to the top corner from about 40 yards but no idea who it was against.

I remember the Wayne Noble goal, T-cake, and the goal keeper who got his foot stuck in the mud; oddly enough we won neither.
The greatest goal of all time by Rob Coldray, a never mentioned legend, thus a paradox on this web site. He scored, taking the ball from the kick-off, dribbling, determined, strong, a rock, a local boy, a hero, forgotten by cruel time and its consequences. He played alongside the great Ron Coltman, goalkeeper extraordinaire, who now plunges the depths of Cheltenham Lido. He could have gone straight into the Portsmouth team at its pomp and play alongside the great Jimmy Dickenson, but instead he decided to remain the only plumber in town without a van. What memories!

In those days City played in the "Conference" of its day alongside Hereford, Yeovil, Headington etc.,........ Not your actual "gas league."
