What is the best Gloucester City match you have ever witnessed?
The match that really sticks out in my mind is the game against Chippenham Town in the FA Cup when we were 3-1 down and won 4-3. Great day :)
Whats your favourite?

Not really a great one for City but last season when we played Tivvy at home - losing 5-4! Was a great game to watch. I can't really remember to many details but I think we scored 3 in about 10 mins to make it 4-3 and then they went and scored two, making it 5-4. Others recently include 1-0 win at Redditch and 4-2 away at Bromsgrove!
On the way back from Wealdstone the other day, my dad and I were talking about some strange places that we had been and the distance we travelled to some games, especially back in the late 90s when I was only about 8/9. Matches include:
5-0 win at Chertsey
Gresley away back in 96/97 where there were a bunch of Derby 'fans'. I don't even remember the score, just running away
3-0 win at Yeading

The FA Cup drubbing of Mertyr, 7-2 I think was the final score, back in 96?, Andy Adebowale was playing for them.

The other non competitve game, which I thought was a gem to watch, was the 2-2 draw with Chelsea in a friendly, when David Rocastle graced the pitch, and Dave Webb scored a cracker of a goal, as did Neil Clement for Chelsea. Obviously my son and I were wearing two scarves at this one.

Think that was 94 actually, I remember them having a sit down protest on the pitch at halftime!
The Bishop Auckland home game was intense, as was the Dagenham game at meadow park with Mings popping up in the last minute of extra time to take it to a replay.
Bromsgove away was probably the best come back i've seen us make.
Stafford Rangers away, 1996 I think with a 5-4 win for us was special.
But best game for me was the 2-1 win over the cheltenham with the Watkins lob in the last minute. I still remember those sorry robins faces in the car park stand as the city fans ran onto the pitch. Happy days!

I was only on the pitch once - at Baldock. In a way, that was one of the finest memories, (though not a fine match), because I thought the job was done and that we should be in the Conference the next season. Pride before a fall, or what ?
My real answer, and one that I suspect Cyclops and the Cleric will echo, is the 6-5 aggregate victory over Yeovil in the two-legged Southern League Cup Final. One of the first games I saw, and I have waited ever so long for something to equal it.
(Sorry, but both these citations are familiar enough to most of you for me to earn the BOF award)

My first ever reply on the forum, but i thought I'd add my 2 penn'orth to this thread. Evening game in 68 or 69, memory isn't that great, 1-1 draw against Brentwood 3,300 attendance at Horton Road, great game and fantastic atmosphere for an open stadium.

Bromsgrove away was brilliant, as was the 2-1 win over Cheltenham. Cardiff FA Cup game was as full as I can ever remember Meadow Park being. But for me the Southport away game was the best. Never ever felt so happy at a football match.

Mine would either be the 5-4 defeat to Tiverton at home last season or the 3-3 draw against Merthyr this year.

I agree Noah, the Southern League Cup victory over Yeovil 1955/56 season? was incredible. We lost 4-1 at Yeovil in the first leg and if that was not bad enough, Yeovil scored first in the second leg at Longlevens through their giant No. 5 Nagy, a Hungarian, I believe. However, if my memory serves me right we managed to turn it around and led at half time 4-1. The score remained the same until full time and in extra time, I believe it was Rob Coldray who went on a dazzling run and scored the winner at the top end, not the Cheltenham Road end. I can't remember what the top end was called, obviously getting older and the memory is failing me.
A truly amazing game.

I have always referred to it as the Dutch Barn End, for obvious reasons, but it may have been known as the Nine Elms End - as it reached towards Nine Elms Road. Sorry, Smudge, I had forgotten that you were there.
Your memory, by contrast, seems to match up very well in describing what happened in this very dramatic game. In this season when at one time we seemed to let leads slip a bit regularly, it makes you wonder what Yeovil thought all those years ago about letting slip a four goal advantage !

I well remember the Dutch Barn, quite a feature really, and of course Nine Elms End sounds familiar, although we have now moved on I remember many exciting games at Longlevens as I am sure you do Noah.

DEFINITELY STOCKPORT game for me. Greatest feeling being congratulated by stocky fans after the match. What a thriller. Even CG had watery eyes and EMG travelled for an away match:) :) [that must be a first]

So many good games, there was the 9.0 against Gosport, and the 10.0 against Sudbury, Dagenham at home, Woking away, Baldock away. Yeading away, for a while, was in there, but recently that game has gone down in my estimation (things could have been so different if I hadn't gone). I think out of all those Dagenham has to be top, went through every emotion possible that day (and probably some that weren't possible too).
Are there any City games that you can point to to being major turning points in your life, there are 2 for me Yeading away in Jan '97 and Burton away in Sept '98. Both games played very major parts in shaping what would happen in the following 9-10 years of my life.

Good to have Badger's contribution. With that many present, there ought to be others who can highlight this match too. In fact there ought to be 3,299 others. Where are they now ? (Spare me the more obvious answers)

Are there any pictures of the old Longlevens ground in existence? It's such a shame that the club seems to have very little hold on it's history and maybe thats why those 3299 others are part of a long lost and forgotten era.

Yes, there are a few. The Groundtastic magazine did a good feature on Horton Road too.
You are right about the "club". It's useless : the word has no meaning in some contexts.
Supporters, though, are something different and I expect we know of some people who can rake up quite a bit of information. Between them I am sure that they might write a book. I will be talking to a couple tomorrow.

Definately, also the trophy semi against Dagenham. My favourite for a great exciting game has to be the Chippenham FA Cup game, I´m so glad we have those goals on video as well!

The best win against the Robins had to be the 3-0 F.A. Cup triumph, which led to John Murphy's resignation. Only Peter Shearer turned up to play for them.

Baldock away for me, going 2-1 down (to two Penalties) with 10 minutes to go, Webb scoring an equlising penalty then , then just moments after coming on as a sub, Adcock latched onto a through ball and hit it mid stride into the top corner from 25 yards. As soon as it left his foot, I could see it was in and I was on the pitch before it hit the back of the net.
I remember just after we went 1-2 down, 2 Baldock fans having a bet amongst themselves that we'd win 3-2 as we wanted it more. Strange, because that was the result that relegated them as well.

I remember fondly the League Cup tie against Gosport in the late 80's when we were 4-0 down from the 1st leg and won the 2nd leg 6-1 to win 6-5 on agg. in thick fog at MP.
The 2-1 win over the scum is another that sticks in the mind. Not the greatest of games but not having the best of times against them and to win the way we did with pre-scum Dale scoring his 30 yard lob which seemed to hang in the air for ages.
Also winning 1-0 at Scum Road when they were pushing for promotion and Brian Hughes and Gary Goodwin had taken over the managerial reins as we we were looking relegation material. The chants of "we beat the scum 1-0" and "we stopped the scum from going up" as we left the ground were superb
