Must say I was pretty impressed with the whole event. Great to be back at the grand colliseum.

The side stand was looking superb and now the ground looks extremely tidy. Congratulations to the working party for the great job!

Decent performance also, impressed with Matt Rose and Jodi Taylor, the trialist, who scored with a decent finish. Thought Griff was a bright spark, Mr Bevan had some good touches and was I made up to see him back on the pitch.

All in all I'm rather satisfied, especially with my purchase of the new blue strip.

The new blue kit is nice isn't it?!!!

I thought it was a tremendous performance against a good side who pay five times as much as we do ;) :D

Two good goals from City and even though he punched more than we're used to seeing I never once felt ill at ease with our goalkeeper.

Good stuff tonight, dipped a bit during the middle of the game but a good start and finish. Dubious penalty though!

thought it was a good game and gloucester looked stronger to me. sawyer pulled of a fantastic save in the first half and i felt mustoe and rose were also very composed throughout the game. and a nice finish from the triallist upfront i think for the opener jody....? overall a good job and to me salibury didn't look especially strong.

that was an excellent performance from the lads tonight! It is clear to see that everyone on the pitch wants to be playing for the team at the moment!

Against a FULL TIME team, both firsts and reserves, we held our own and the signs are good for the coming season! you could not help but leave feeling confident!!

Thought we played well tonight and were well worth a draw. I was impressed with Matthew Rose tonight and the lads at the back looked fairly solid. What a save from Sawyer in the first half

We played really well today! Sawyer looks awesome, that save in the first half, the guy couldn't believe it didn't go in, and he loud and clears the danger well. He nearly got to the pen aswell. Webby, Rose and Muzzie looked really good and Pitcher looks like he will be a big force this season!

Well done everyone!

A very promising performance tonight against a Salisbury side that although missing there full time pros was still a strong side.
I was impressed with the right back Reedy I think ? thought he looked very determined.
Jodi took his goal well and looked lively , his and Jacks pace caused problems for the salisbury back 4 especially there dodgy no 5 center half.
Rose looked good also and although he didn't have much to do, I thought Kevs save was superb as did one of the Salisbury directors who I bumped into.
Overall a very good result.

Any idea what the crowd was?

My dad phoned and the words he used were "very promising". He also said the attendance was around 250.

He was impressed with Pitcher and the trialist up front.

Was it last season when we lost quite a lot of pre-season games against lower opposition, we have to put this right, we shouldn't be losing to the likes of Slimbridge, Bristol Manor Farm etc. Okay, we are not expected to beat the Salisbury, Telford's of this world but if they do not put out strong teams then we might have a chance.

So far so good, we should have real confidence about the new season.

Very good performance from all the team, quick on the break which we weren't last season and we defended well forward of the goal line thus giving the goaly a chance to see.

The official attendence was 242 I think :)

Also, I thought I recognised their number 10 who started up front, he was Stuart Gates who appaeared in Football Icon 2 on Sky One. Came 2nd and was very close to being offered a contract with Chelsea! Didn't really do much though....

Yeah the white one is lush, it looks like the latest England strip with the red and blue on the shoulders!

A good performance. Griff looked a real handfull when he came on and Taylor took his goal really well. We are going to have a nice selection headache up front! Salisbury were a good footballing side and Prince was really impressive, although I didnt think much of his free cd in the mail. Their number eight looked about 13 though, what was all that about? Did he win a competition?

Interesting to think that when the T-End stand was officially opened we played Salisbury in the league and there was 1500 in the ground and they brought less than a handfull of fans. Now they bring 30 odd for a pre-season fixture and their gates are 3 times the size of ours. Shows how a bit of success changes things about!

Players are going to be released this week. Scott Griffin may have been considered surplus to requirements given whats in front of him and he showed that he can be a real alternative to the pacy pair of Whitts & Pitcher. Sooooooo, considering that he's going to miss the whole of pre-season and will start the campaign behind everyone else do you think there's a change that Jason Welsh may not be retained??

(Neil ducks for cover!)

Clifty

no i think that Welsh gives something different to all the other forwards and you have to keep him. Pitcher, Whitts and Taylor are all similar players! Short, pacy but not the best in the air!!

I think you have to remember that Jason Welsh can also play at the back - an area where I can still see us needing cover - that for me means that Welshy will stay at City

We have to keep Welshy. Like Clifty said he is different to the other strikers we have at the moment. Although Taylor looked good I think he will still be on stand by in case Whitts or Pitcher are injured/suspended.

Think you have it right there Darren, we need Welsh (when he is fit) and from what I have heard he is staying.

From what his dad said yesterday he has signed on to play. Not only can he cover at the back but he was our top scorer from a limited number of starts. Imagine how many he could get if he was fit all season....

Neil

Imagine how many he could get if he was fit all season....Thats my concern though, I'd love to see him play 42 league games and bang in 20 goals but how many games did he miss through injury last year? What happens if he starts the season unfit and does himself an injury by pushing himself too hard :(

darrenb
19th July 2007, 11:45 PM
Does he have a history of injuries or was he just unlucky last season?

Any player needs to get regular games to find some form and I'm sure if Welshy gets a few games under his belt he will be a major part of the squad next season.
