In the iterim period where I uninstalled my pop up blocker and installed a new one, Mrs Wirral decided it would be a great idea to click "install" when asked about a new anti-virus software via a pop-up.
Now my homepage is "about:blank" and wont change, and every two minutes a "system performance warning" comes up trying to sell me some dodgy anti-virus software. I have tried deleting and uninstalling the software, but it wont all go, and I cant change my homepage for love nor money.
Anyone offer any help before it drives me so mad I throw it at a seagull?

Can't you do a system restore to the time prior to you changing your pop up blocker! Try the day before,See if that helps!

Don't suppose it is site called SoftWHelp, because if it is, just reading this thread, it has just popped up on my computer, coincidence or what?

right as its spyware/adware, when u log in to windows and when you are at the desktop Ctrl, Alt + delete.
Click the processes tab and look through them if you see something suspicious type it into the search bar on this website.
http://www.processlibrary.com/
it will tell you what the process is if its spyware/virus ect it will say the name of it,
then search for the virus on google, and see if theres anything there about gettting rid of it.
hope this helps.

Well, thank you all for your help. Eventually at 4am this morning I hope I got rid of it.
In case you have to do this as well RegCubit I'l explain how I disposed of it.
I checked what was in my processes via www.processslibrary.com (thanks tonkertoy!) and found one that it didn't recognise (iesmn.exe). I then did a google search of this exe and found it to be a nice trojan horse. I then did a google search of "how to get rid of iesmn.exe" which got me to a forum called "SpyWareBeWare!" and I did a search on here for iesmn.exe and someone had posted instructions on how to get rid. Which so far seems to have worked!
Cheers for your help lads!
