From tonights Citizen....

Gloucester City boss Tim Harris will look at four triallists during tonight's pre-season friendly against Ledbury Town (7.45pm).Former Hednesford Town defender Adam Shakespeare will be given a chance to impress after recovering from a serious knee injury.

The 25-year-old spent time at Birmingham City and West Brom as a youngster and has also represented Hereford United and Barry Town.

Ollie Holder, (right) another defender who progressed to Cirencester Town's first team after graduating from the Centurions academy, will also play at New Street this evening.

Harrow Hill striker Jody Taylor will also play in the Tigers' opening warm-up match of the summer against the West Midlands Premier Division club.

Midfielder Marc Richards and left-back Luke Buttery are both away and will not feature, but will be back for the home clash with Salisbury City next Tuesday.

Alex Sykes and Michael Whittington are sidelined with ankle knocks, while Jason Welsh is recovering from his shoulder operation and Jimmy Cox has left City.

New signing Kevin Sawyer will start in goal, but Hereford-based youngster Steve Bell may appear in the second half. Midfielder Matty Rose and striker Jack Pitcher will also make their first appearances since joining the Tigers.

"I have been very pleased with the levels of fitness and we have had some good sessions," Harris said.

"There is some trimming of the squad to be done, but the boys are looking forward to their first friendly run out."

Ledbury are managed by former City and Hereford player Phil Preedy.

The scorers were Jody Taylor, Hamblin (?) and Pitcher.

Pitcher scored with his second touch in a City shirt :D

The Young Ciren trialist impressed me and looks a very good defender the others didn't do that well but they were all decent I suppose. We really didn't get out of first gear to be honest but Ledbury did have their chances and hit the woodwork twice, one of them was a Kev Sawyer making a abolsutely phenomenal save from a header, a great sign for things to come :D

Overall, Good performance I suppose.

Right ok i am just back from Ledbury. Here is the team...

1.Kev Sawyer
2.Chris Thompson
3.Alex Allard
4. Neil Mustoe (C)
5.Adam Shakespeare
6.Ollie Holder
7.Matt Smith
8.Tom Webb
9.Jody Taylor
10.Jody Bevan
11.Wilko

12.Reid
13.Hamblin
14.Pitcher
15.Matt Rose
16.Tompkins
17.Scott Griffin
18.Steve Bell (GK)

This was a bit of a training match for city as they comfortably saw off a spirited Ledbury Town side. Ledbury were probably the quicker team out of the blocks, and showed some neat touches. A couple of long range efforts gave Kev Sawyer a couple of scares, but after 20 minutes or so they rarely troubled the new keeper on his city debut.

This was more a game of seeing what prospective players had to offer more than anything else, and Tim i am sure will have left fairly happy, with good displays from all of the Trial players. Trialist Jody Taylor was to open the scoring with a bit of a lucky goal, however they all count, and you have to get yourself nto the positions. He looked a decent prospect, and i am sure that he could make it at southern league level. At the back Adam Shakespeare and Ollie Holder looked fairly strong, and grew better the longer they were playing together. Matt Smith looked like he had a good touch, and wasn't scared to get himself in good forward positions.

There wan't really much to note until midway into the second half when Tom Hamblin side footed an easy chance into the back of the net, and then Tim decided to bring on Jack Pitcher! What can i say? 10 seconds, 2 touches, 3-0 city. He was quick, decent in the air and looked extremely fit. This will be a very good signing for city.

No new kit though, we were still in the Peru one of last year. Pitcher looked a class act!

Nice photos Clifty, you've done a good job there. Did anyone else notice some of the Ledbury players in white socks and others in black?

As Clifty said a bit of a training match really but a lot of positives to be taken. Thought all of the trialists looked worth another go. Pitch didn't really lend itself to fantastic football as the grass was too long and I thought that at times we played a bit too long. Pitcher looked a class above when he came on. Glad to see Jodie back in a City shirt as well.

to be honest city never really got out of first gear!

Yeah, that grass was like 3 inches long! The ball was just stopping when it was rolling.

Also we used an orange and a yellow ball, has a City match ever seen two coloured balls and no white, I wonder. And when was the last time we didn't use a white ball?

Think the pitch suited Ledbury a lot more than it did City. It made passing very difficult. Next Tuesday should be a better test. City never needed to get out of first gear tonight.

Everybody is going to have to fight for their place this term that's for sure. Can't wait for the season to start.

sounds like a bit of a fitness excersise and a try out for triallists to me. probably good to have as a first friendly as you don't want your players going in hard in your first game back. looks like city have a busy pre season to me.
