was a bit of a shock to read this earlier! Must be bad considering the money that has been thrown at getting them to the point that they were at!

well that is our pre season game against them over! i've heard that they are all going to shortwood so when you play them in pre season in a couple of weeks time (i hope to watch) they could be lining up in a shortwood shirt.

wot a mess.

I wondered why all (well two) their players seemed to be cropping up at Bishop's Cleeve.

Big shame for the people who've actually worked hard to get a little club to that level. It looks like there's a back story to be told here - some of those involved of course had previous at City, but best skim over the past

And there but for the grace of God....

Yea and most of them ****ed off when times got hard and the money stopped being so competitive at city!

Very sad to read this, Slimbridge were the hosts for the County Womens League Cup Final in April, and what a really nice bunch of people, I knew Dave Phillips from his City days, their chairman John Mack seemed a nice guy too; they couldn't do enough to help us on the day

Suppose the truth will never come out about what has happened, their supporters must be devastated, all that hard work for nothing.

always frustrates me when a football club does so well and then it all collapses when you have gone all the way. makes you think all of those freezing cold wet training sessions on a monday night just aren't worth it!

PS. clifty our club sec has left you the info for the GRASS scheme we run at forest green rovers for you on the forum:

the money has poured into Slimbridge recently .. they are playing above their true level for local support ... it's what should have happened to FGR...

Clubs rise & fall, but Gloucester City remain in the Southern League... but maybe one day, the local money will come our way? 100,000 potential fans... proper stadium... you know it makes sense!

why should it have happened to us? we have built ourselves up as a club over the past few seasons and have done well. The third current longest serving Conference member. Unless i'm leaving something out??

Joycie i don't think that it was a dig at Forest Green. I think what was being suggested is that so often a club will come through a couple of leagues and then hit a brick wall where they just don't have the finances. Forest Green came through the leagues (in my opinion) at the right time and have managed to survive both through loyal fans, a publicity hungry chairman (CG) and a little bit of luck. of course being able to sell the land that your stadium was built on for housing development will have been a great help!

thanks clifty! that clears things up!! :) i know that canvey island about two seasons ago hit a brick wall as you say and are now lower down the leagues because of their quick progression. i supposed we have been lucky as the club has been ran well and we have had many lucky last day escapes! ;)
