I heard on the radio yesterday that the smoking ban cover all areas inside football grounds. When I checked this out today the only thing I could find was that the Football League had agreed to ban smoking inside all grounds in the league. Whilst I agree to the ban in enclosed areas, like the bar, I think it's a bit extreme to ban it in the ground as well as this is not an enclosed area. I hope the ban will not stretch down to non league grounds as well as I think this may affect crowd levels.
And before you ask - yes I do smoke

As far as I am aware if a covered stand is more than 50% enclosed then that falls under the description of an enclosed area so I would imagine that all three covered stands at Meadow Park will be smoke free from tomorrow. However the club may go futher and ban smoking inside the ground.

I see no reason why people should be able to smoke in the uncovered parts of the ground. It's good that non-smokers will no longer have to breathe second hand smoke in an enclosed area but lets give everyone a choice else it'll be another way of reducing the crowds at MP....

I'm sure there was something in the programme at the last game against Clevedon saying that the whole of meadow park would be non-smoking. I could be wrong though.

There is no way that in any covered section of the ground that people will be able to smoke, and that is a good thing. The open sections are a different matter and it will be up to the people in charge to decide. I think that their should be some sort of smoking section. I dont think it will harm attendences as people who smoke arent going to stop doing everything they do and just think of all the places where you cant smoke now.

From what I've seen of the law it'll cover bus shelters - so I guess that'll include the cow shed :). The law covers the clubhouse, cow shed, main stand and the T-End - but I don't think it would include the uncovered car park end or other areas.
God knows how it would actually be enforced though - can't see Mike & The Stewards being too keen to have to chuck people out for lighting up. And what happens if people are stood by the edge of the perimiter wall and leaning out into the pitch and the open air?
At least we're not at Hednesford. They had to ban smoking years ago as the new ground was built on top of an area with a gas problem, lighting up could have ignited a fireball. Now that's a proper deterrent...

I think the Club could be fined in the region of 6K if the powers that be do a check and we are found to be letting people smoke in the stadium...... watch out for big-brother big- time
