So if it's true....what was the fee?, is there a fee?, why do we keep getting left in the dark with these deals and "agreements"..?

sorry dont know any more than my first post.
No reason at all for me not to believe this isnt true though

If it's true then maybe it won't be so bad in the long run. Any kind of uncertainty helps no-one, especially the player himself.

i also know from a very good source he is starting for forest green today straight from the horses mouth

Well good luck to him then. I hope he performs for them better than he did for us at Farnborough and Chalfont.

Good luck Symo, thought one game aside he did well for us. You can't blame him for wanting to try higher. good point Neil makes about eeding a bit of certainty. After our cup exit he may not be replaced

Neil

After our cup exit he may not be replacedAlthough that does make us look a bit light up top. Hopefully Boris will have had someone lined up to replace him (and Palmer!)

I was quite sceptical when I heard City were looking to sign him as when I was watching Kev at Ciren the season before last I didn't really think much of him.

Im glad I kept quiet though because I thought he looked a different player in a few City games.

It seems he must have developed quite a bit if he is slowly moving up the leagues. Can't hold that against any player.

He was always likely to move on after the start he has had for us. Best of luck Symo.

I really hope we do bring someone in to replace him.

Anyone got any names of people lined to replace him at City?

Clifty
20th September 2008, 06:28 PM
he has a trial at bournemouth in the week, although there is no way that he is good enough for that level.

Clifty
20th September 2008, 06:30 PM
The lad Symons was totally out of his depth. Why he has been given a year deal is beyond me. Actually the first half reminded me of the bad old days when lazy football at FGR was in. Whoof up the pitch. In less than 45 minutes we went from a passing team to a old style Conference team.

ring a bell? from the FGR forum!!

Clifty
20th September 2008, 07:17 PM
Symonds tried hard but needs to go up a class and fast if he is to have an impact at this level. Their defence had him in their pocket all game

again from the FGR forum, and exactly what we were saying in the first half today about him!

again from the FGR forum, and exactly what we were saying in the first half today about him!I'm convinced that there's two of him, identical twins. Looks like the one who turned up for FGR today was the imposter we had playing for us at Chalfont last week.

I wish Symonds all the best, but not sure he has quite what it takes at Conference level just yet. I'd welcome him back here any week. We certainly missed his presence today.

symons has signed a 1 year contract with fgr today

Neil
20th September 2008, 08:27 PM
Good for him, but if it's a ploy to have him on contract if Bournemouth are interested then that seems to fly in the face of the old "we won't stand in his way" mantra.

Clifty
20th September 2008, 08:41 PM
i would be surprised if bournemouth will pay for him, if that is FGR's plan, and in that case they will just end up with another player on contract who simply isn't good enough for conference football!

good point but to be fair it seems like the club had little notice themselves. Poor show by FGR and Symo!

Neil

Yeah Boris said he only found out late yesterday afternoon and has had no contact from FGR. Also, Mike (press officer) has had more important things to deal with this week.

the first time i heard it announced was when the line up was read today at the match so it must have been a get the paperwork through quickly job. symo didn't have a lot to work on today in a woeful performance by the whole team but the fans still have faith in him. he looked a bit puffed out and was replaced on about 55 minutes but once andy mangan is fully fit again he'll probably be out of the side for a long time. would have been better if he had stayed with you guys and we could pick him when we want although that would have been pretty inconvenient for you guys.

Sorry but unless a new ground is suddenly announced, what is more important than notifying the fans that the clubs top scorer is on the off?!

To be honest Ill be surprised if Symo gets a regular place in your first team.
Looked good for City in a few games and much better than I saw him when he played for Ciren but whether he will make the grade as a first team conference player is a different matter.

Has he signed a deal with FGR ?

Hopefully we Will see another striker at City soon to replace him ?

Would be excellent if that was the case Neil, but as a spurs supporter who sat up night after night reading through all the players we were linked with on 606 and Spurs Community ( by so called ITK's) during the last transfer window, only to have all my hopes dashed on deadline day, I have to say that I will wait for an official announcement from the club before getting my hopes up.

Jamie Reid played for Ciren yesterday looks a good player. Why has'nt he been playing for you?

Neil
21st September 2008, 10:46 AM
Noq thats a surprise!

Reidy is a good player and did well in his spell in midfield before christmas last year and it looked as though he'd kick on and establish himself in his favoured position but got moved out wide and then drifted out of the side.

He seemed surplus to requirements this season and was loaned to Almondsbury. I hope he's only on loan to Ciren because he's too good to let go.

If thats true than thats a shocking decision. I'm not one to criticise individual players but our manager surely can't believe that some of the current players playing in his position are better than Jamie?

Good luck though Jamie!

Drat. Thoguht he was a good player and had a promising partnership with Ballinger and he tore Bashley to shreds. Can't help thinking that if we had won against Chalfont, that extra cash would have allowed us to keep him. One step forward, two back as per usual :frown:

Really though we lacked penetration up front against Bedford, as well as burliness. Defence was better though and Sysum again played with maturity.

I've had a influx of private messages relating to this and obviously I wasnt aware of the situation and naturally it is far more important. But my original moan isnt at an individual, it's at the club-there are many people who can step in. Why should we only find out about deals via rumour on here or in the bar 30 minutes before a game?, why are there no financial details given, why arent the fans given a heads up about potential transfers out etc? Surely we should be asking these questions?

This isnt just about Symons, this goes back with City for years. Remember the whole palava with Watkins doing the off to Cheltenham which nobody, even him if rumours are to be believed, knew about.

I just think its totally disrespectful towards the supporters who do so much for this club.

. But my original moan isnt at an individual, it's at the club-there are many people who can step in.

I just think its totally disrespectful towards the supporters who do so much for this club.

I remember the pre-season friendly at Evesham just before Dale left and I did feel completely in the dark. I understand Bob's grievance on that point. But that was then.

I am afraid that, to my understanding, there are not many people who want to step in and cover nowadays, whatever the capacity. When I have had to ask for some emergency support via these message boards it has usually been forthcoming. But having someone to shadow those with responsibilities and to be readily available to substitute would take us to a new level. If anyone wants to lend a hand that would help enormously

Presently I think that the efforts of supporters are warmly appreciated. The Trust has two official representatives on the Executive and a number of people work in dual capacities, with the Trust and with the Executive. You will know how many working directors we have, and neither of them has to my knowledge ever been disrespectful. Do these two, in some people's minds, constitute the club that Bob wants to moan at ? Against who else is the charge being levelled ?

The contributions of supporters could not be more recognised and valued.

I am not writing this for a single moment to be controversial. I know that there are differing opinions, and all of these must be respected. It is evidently the case that communications can be improved - because that is the same nearly everywhere. One of the most important investments at the Corinium is in having a club shop once again (cf. FGR). Many issues can be taken to Trust Board members there, if you wish, and then taken up with club officials appropriately. If you don't like the Trust, then the club directors don't hide on match days. It's not Newcastle United.

I do not make light of the comments about a clique that were raised ten days ago. In fact I can quite understand how that perception comes about. What we ought to be concerned about is how to rectify any situation that encourages that opinion.

We have a lot going for us, despite all the difficulties we face. We have much that is admired by other clubs, this Forum being one thing. I appreciate that we have very few mischief makers here, and nearly everyone writes with passion and concern for Gloucester City. We ain't perfect and ought to look at being better but there were a couple of issues raised by Bob that I thought
had to be responded to : I am sure that no one wishes to be disrespectul to us ; the number of people covering the bases on a matchday, and/or trying to manage the club's administration day by day is simply too small.

Agree with Bobby C on this one, it's gone on for years and should have been stamped out a long time ago - I recall the Watkins one with the scum being particularly painful.
