What would you rather take?;

City being promoted or England winning the World Cup?

I'm proud to be English, but I know my answer and it aint the latter!

Option1, I honestly can't see option 2 happening in my lifetime - and I am not that old (cue sarcastic remarks!!)

I would love to see England win the world cup in my lifetime however the more I watch them and with English football (especially the Premier League) the way it is at the moment its becoming less and less likely that its gonna happen.

As im not a "true" City fan I'd have to choose England myself but that said I would love to see City promoted. The club and especially the fan base deserve to be higher up the pyramid than we are now.

One things for sure, I know which of the above my money will be on

i'm proud to be English too, just a shame that some of the England players aren't or don't show it! The current England setup won't win anything and Copello is a joke. He recently said that his team were better than spain who had just won euro 08. And he expects people to take him seriously!

City will get promoted one day, and i do believe we have a chance via the play-offs this season! i'd take city in the conference over England every time!

I would take City getting promoted every time. At the moment it seems harder to identify with our national team whereas City I can easily. It would mean so much more as most of us are there week in week out watching our side all over the country, may not always be the right result but there aren't any prima donna's in this side.

As long as Premier League clubs are permitted to turn out teams without including a single England-qualified player, we won't stand a cat in hells chance of winning anything.

As for the England-qualified players - if they can earn £80-90-100K per week from their clubs what incentive is there to play for England? They'd rather spend their time having their hair nicely coiffeured!

Anybody having a part to play in getting GCFC promoted would be achieving far more relatively than those Premier League pansies.

I think it was Alan Sugar what said in the Sun last week that the English game has been totally ruined by the foreign players and foreign money in the Premiership. He suggested that the *other* 15 clubs in the prem should adopt an English player only policy and bring through the best talent for this country whilst not being forced to pay sky high wages and therefore bringing the costs to the fans down.

Until we shun foreign players at the top of the game we'll never do any good as a nation.

I am surprised that it's taken a very intelligent man like Alan all this time to figure it out. Until the FA adopt the ruling that exists in the world of cricket concerning the number of foreign players in any club, Englands game will continue to suffer.

I think we may well achieve this in the next couple of seasons.

I'm actually not against foreign players in the premiership but it needs to be limited, if I was in charge I would have a rule that at least 6 of the players on the field were British or Irish nationals.

There are some teams in the premiership with no such players, even my second team Liverpool only have Carragher, Gerrard & Keane who consistently play in the first team.

Poor Cheltenham have been trying so hard for so many season's to get relegated, I hope this year they achieve it.

I detest everything about the national side; Gloucester doing the biz everytime for me.

England have never been good, but up until Italia '90, they at least showed guts, determination and pride. Now it's all hype and absolutely no substance whatsoever.

I don't know what the future holds for the PL, but it's not the same game I used to go and watch when I was a lad (I'm only 30). The prices, the wages, the corporate takeover, the foreign takeover, the lack of sportsmanship; all killing the game in my humble opinion. But for each fan put off the game or put off going to a PL game, a newer, wealthier fan emerges so the clubs don't see any problem.

Jack Walker at Blackburn set the ball rolling, if he was around now, he wouldn't get a look in at the title. It now needs a billionaire to simply remain stationary in the PL, just what happened to the game I love?

England and the PL go hand in hand, and the PL is a disgrace to everything that the game was founded upon.

I pretty much agree with everything written by Compost. I dont even watch the Premier League anymore.

Nor me.

I won't subscribe to Sky, or any other broadcaster, on principle, just because of the amount of money their throwing at the game. Would hate to think I'm contributing to those overpaid, overhyped pansies wages, and I cannot understand how folk willingly part with their hard-earned cash so that these so-called 'stars' can own huge mansions and drive 3 or 4 flash cars.

And did I read somewhere that Manchester City are paying this Robinho guy £160K per week? The worlds gone mad!

End of rant.

The Premier League should be renamed disneyland

and I don't care at all what happens to Cheltnum.

One of the things that pissed me off at Chelsea was that more people joined in to sing we hate man u than would sing in support of their own team - I dont like it at City either.

so there!

Anyway - UP FOR T'CUP THIS SATURDAY!!

Well as we're on the topic of the premier league, I'm originally from Middlesbrough and obviously due to this I still follow them when I'm not watching city. I think we are a rarity in that league though, we dont spend what we dont have (anymore anyway), we have a local boy done good as a chairman, we dont pander to money grabbing mercenaries anymore-they get shipped out (Zenden, Barmby, Rochemback, Ziege etc) so rely now on the youth programme and the club doesnt charge away fans 45+ quid a ticket to get in (unlike Spurs, Liverpool etc).

What annoys me though is how the club is continually mocked by the media-Sky, the London based press and MOD being prime examples. Boro often have 6 or 7,000 empty seats for home games and this seems to be a great piss take for those above, but their missing the point. The reason for this is simple; it's a poor area, Boro arent a fashionable club so dont have a big out of town following-the following comes from the area and even though the other seats at £30 or so for premier league standards anyway, are quite reasonable, it's still too much and people are priced out.

Given the fact that you can watch the game broadcast live via middle eastern satellite tv in about 7 or 8 pubs in the town centre for nowt also doesnt help. The club can't reduce tickets though due to other clubs throwing silly money about and thus not being able to compete with them or pay the players wages.

It's probably alright for Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, Man U etc-these clubs have the new "celebrity fans" plus all those rich idiots from Ireland and the like who 60 quid a match or a grand for a season ticket is a drop in the ocean. Its those local working class fans of the above-and the less fashionable clubs like Wigan, Boro, Sunderland, even Newcastle now who are feeling the pinch, becoming disillusioned and staying away.

Eventually the premiership will implode- or worse still this European G14 league will take off, but its only a matter of time before we get the first 100 million pound player and the first player to pick up 300 grand a week. You'll see more FC United's and FC Liverpool's springing up soon....

I only subscribe to Setanta because of the Blue Square Premier and although most of their money goes on the Premier League and the Internationals at least I know some of it goes to Non League. I also get Racing UK in the package so that helps as well

They said no, but you know how it is, if Gerrard needs treatment or an operation, they always make sure they do it on an International week!

The G-14 disbanded this year. I think they came to an agreement that FIFA and UEFA will now pay compensation to clubs when their players are injured and International tournaments. So as part of the deal, they agreed to disband.

#1 everytime. Don't get me wrong, I love England, and I know I don't go to EVERY City game (fair plays to the ones that do) but that is the one club in the back of my mind almost 24/7. I just can't relate to the overpaid primadonnas that make up the England team.

To me the Prem is just sterile. Sky are clueless about anything that's passionate about the sport, they think by adding a few computerised graphics that they're giving fans what they want. Below this, the Beeb treats everything as a joke. The Prem wouldn't be what it is without what supports it: the entire pyramid structure from Ashington Booze Brothers Athletic to Mevagissey Reserves.

What's so great about supporting a team from a city you don't live in/come from with players from countries that speak another language? (he says as a Liverpool fan  )
