Wait a minute, why aren't we talking about the big European tie this week...

Manchester United v AC Milan was a great game, a proper European night!. Under the floodlights, goals, last minute drama, a mostly Italian side playing a mostly British side. What a game!

On this game, I think Liverpool are in trouble now, they really needed an away goal to have much chance, I think a 1-1 or 0-0 will now follow at Anfield and see Chels through. Do you ever sit back and think, why is Jermaine Pennant playing in a European Cup Semi? lol

I'm absolutely bricking myself about Tomorrow night. After 'the goal that never was' two years ago I probably speak for all Chelsea fans when I say we need to beat you! For revenge. I believe that only 5 players have survived from that night at Anfield (Cech, Terry, Makelele, Lamps and Drogba) so they will want to win not only for a place in the Champions League Final but for revenge purposes too.

If we don't win, I feel we won't win anything more this season.

Its a true 'do or die' situation tomorrow. Come on Chelsea!

8th Dec 2004, Anfield. Olympiakos lead 1-0 at half time. Livepool need 3 goals to qualify from the group stage! Guess what happened next?

Not only is that not the same ball park, its not even the same continent in terms of comparison. Qualifying v final, Olympiakos v Milan. You've got more spin than Ashley Giles. Well actually so have most people. You know what I mean, you're talking a load of Josef Goebbels

I would love to see a United v Liverpool final. I used to 'support' United as a kid until I started watching City then I 'followed' them closely until I actually started watching them regularly when I didn't really care and missed City. But old habits die hard so I'd like to see United do the Treble, stick their fingers up at Chelsea moneybags and give Liverpool the mother of all spankings. For it is the red of Merseyside whom I doth hate.

Yeah absolutely, it was more Milan playing the most rattled 6 minutes in their long history.

Here is a question, if Steven Gerrard didn't play for Liverpool, say went to Chelsea when he handed in a transfer request, where would they be now? Another Newcastle I think, they are distinctly average without him!

Liverpool didnt deserve it tonight at all, we played the better Football all night. I may be bitter but I speak the truth. Gerrard was poor in my opinion and Mascherano did the business. I'm gutted for players like Lamps and JT, 3 semi final losses in 4 years? It's getting to hard to take now. :(

6 Times? Come on United!

tigermatty
1st May 2007, 11:12 PM
I think both teams were pretty rubbish, don't think either side 'deserved' to win but Liverpool created more chances without doubt, and the goal was class, pure training ground stuff.

Once again when the going gets tough Chelsea have no one to turn to...:p

Simon

Being a long term Chelsea fan, I remember many nights like this in the past where it could've been. Real Zaragoza in 1996, Lazio in 1999, Barcelona in 2000, Viking Stavenger in 2001, Hapoel Tel Aviv in 2002, St Gallen in 2003, Monaco in 2004, Liverpool in 2005, Barcelona again in 2006 and now tonight. Every single one of those nights we had chances but we blew it. Tonight was a night like that. We have our nights when we do the job, I remember Vicenza when we won the Cup Winners Cup, 1-0 down from the first leg, then Vicenza scored an away goal at the Bridge. That night we scored three with Mark Hughes getting the final goal.
We have produced some of the best Football the Champions League has seen, the 5-0 demolition of Galatasaray in their own backyard and the 4-0 hammering of Lazio at the Olympic Stadium. We deserve the European Cup and to see him slip from our hands once again is too hard to take.

Unlucky boys, maybe next year :(

6 games and a period of extra time, between these two in the Champion's 'Joke' League, and only 3 goals. what is it about this competition that sucks the life out of these usually frenzied Premiership affairs!

RegCubit
2nd May 2007, 12:04 AM
Yet again we lose to Liverpool in a semi thanks to the officials, at least Andy Townsend managed to spot the foul that should have been given that should have wiped out the goal.

But sadly we were crap, no imagination, continous long balls to Drogba, then we bring on Robben who suffers from a serious medical condition, Gronkjaer syndrome, it causes brilliance one season shear boredom the next. Then we introduce the attacking flair of Geremi:tosser: , obviously as a penalty expert, sadly it was the worst one of the night. I've never liked him.

Lampard, well I think he has been average all season, and it really is time to look for a replacement, and as for Mikel someone explain why we had a fight with United over him, he is nothing to write home.

At the end of the day, it was not the greatest of games, and I'm afraid Liverpool deserved to win it. Whats the odds on a new manager to replace Mourhino

For once I actually watched a live Premiership game, and enjoyed the fact that whoever lost I would have derived some satisfaction. Liverpool :tosser: for being :tosser: and Chelsea because of their money-bagged arrogance :tosser: and Mourinho :tosser: I thoroughly enjoyed his dejection.

As for the match - a nervous affair, Pennant stood out for me, Gerrard was crap, thought Liverpool just shaded it although no team stood out head and shoulders.

Indeed Shandy that report sums it up perfectly! When will Jose get his head out of his ass and realise that he isn't invincible, and that his team aren't always the best team on the park! Chelsea were boring, and lacked any inventiveness, and although they dominated the first leg, they looked fairly ordinary last night! I have to say that you wouldn't have known Lampard was playing, and it was a shame to see Drogba roling around on the ground when he clearly just had a ball hit him in the face!

It makes you wonder how long Jose will have a job, as his comments are becoming degrading and offensive to opposition teams and players, and if i was a Chelsea fan i would be quite embaressed by some of his comments. Myself, as a Liverpool fan, just feel embaressed for him because he clearly doesn't realise what a :tosser: he is making himself look!

Lets not forget that last night was there for the taking for Chelsea, as if they had scored just one goal then Liverpool would have had to score 3. People can make comments about the fouling for the goal, but lets be honest, how often does a defender push a player like that and get away with it? all the time!, and where some might say that Liverpool were lucky with that goal, i feel that they were unlucky to have the second disallowed, as it was in my opinion, marginally onside.

Will it be an all English final? i don't personally think so. Milan will score, and i feel that Man Utd will be up against it tonight!

You been attending the same acting class's as Jose? Chelsea were drab, and boring, and never looked like scoring!

Rafa summed it up when he sat on the floor with his legs crossed during the penalties. There was never any doubt that liverpool had the confidence that Chelsea lacked to win!

Not a great game to watch to be honest, Chelsea constantly pumping long balls to Drogba and Liverpool happy to stick numbers back until they got a chance. Certainly would have been interesting if Drogba had stuck away his chance in the first half as Liverpool would have had to start doing some serious attacking.

As for tonight I can see Man United getting a 1-1 draw and going through to the final as well

Very sad news indeed. I send my condolenses (sp?) to his family and it caps off what has been a sickening week for the club.

This won't hold as much significance as the Matthew Harding Tragedy though because Harding was the person who transformed us from the mid table side we once were to a Europe chasing side. His Money helped us build the now called Matthew Harding Stand and truly transformed the Bridge to become one of the best club grounds in England. His money brought in Zola (:notworthy:), Gullit (:notworthy:) and Vialli (:notworthy:).

Still, very sad news for the Club.

If it was just for the champions it would be over in a fortnight, let's not be silly now. This competition exisits to produce entertaining football and I think it does so more than any other competition in the world. The fact that Liverpool and Milan didn't win their domestic leagues is neither here nor there, they have overcome enough decent opposition to deserve their places.

Chelsea and Man U have spent millions on players. They have big squads and neither of them have a divine right to win 4 trophies each year.

Have to disagree re Ferguson - he took defeat very graciously admitting the best side won. He must have been especially disappointed as its been a few years now since United had the level of success they are threatening this season. He would have been very confident of beating Liverpool on the basis of their results this season.

The old Fergie has been replaced by a more mellow one in recent years but I still think he's going to die on the job (during a football match, not shagging Gary Neville)

'Leagues in other countries would help their clubs no end so they can prepare properly for European nights, so there is a problem there," said Ferguson.

Ferguson called into question the integrity of the Premier League's policy as United's weary squad try to pick themselves up after their Champions League exit at the hands of a ruthless AC Milan side.

Asked for his view on the prospects of a second Liverpool v AC Milan final in three years, Ferguson added: "Both teams will be fresh for the final, they will be able to rest players and prepare fully."
