DISASTER FOR DOOMED BORO
by DAVID BROOME
NUNEATON Borough's expulsion from the Blue Square North could come as early as Monday after director Ian Neale admitted administration cannot be avoided.
With debts of around £1million crippling the club, insolvency proceedings seem inevitable, and now the Football Conference have confirmed that they will enforce the appendix E ruling that if a club enters administration during the close season, they will not be admitted back into the Blue Square leagues for the next campaign.
Neale told Evening News Sport: "We are in consultation with the Football Conference and, unfortunately, we can't now avoid an insolvency procedure, so we have been told we will be removed from the Conference leagues.
"We are discussing things with the Football Association now to find out what league we will be playing in.
"I would imagine it would be Monday or Tuesday of next week (that we know for sure)."
It is likely that Boro's predicament will result in them demoted to the Southern League, but it still remains to be seen at which level of the pyramid they will find themselves.
There is the possibility that the Blues will drop down two divisions, meaning they could find themselves either in the Midlands Division or the South/West Division of the Southern League.
However, Neale will not be cutting his losses at Liberty Way any time soon, even if the club do face a season of trips to clubs like Soham Town Rangers, Slough Town and Truro City.
He revealed that he is still completely behind the club - whatever their future holds - and is taking a very hands-on approach to making the best of their situation.
Said Neale: "I am 100 per cent committed to supporting whatever we need to do.
"We are now investing money into the club, we've got essential work going on at the moment with regards to the memorial garden and refurbishing the bar.
"I'm spending a lot of time and energy on it at the moment, it's pretty full-time.
"I've been on email since eight o'clock in the morning, chasing people down to make sure we've got everything in place."
