For a variety of reasons, not least it being my 10th wedding anniversary, I will not be at the end of season do. So as I will not have the chance to thank him publically then, please may I use the Forum to thank Forum and T End regular Dave Hatton for the superb job he did as U18 secretary this season.
Believe me it was as tough a season off the pitch as it could be – the FAYC run, many games lost due to the weather, playing on no less than 4 different venues, a cup final and a need to find a whole new pool of Referees following our move to the Forest. There were a couple of occasions where we did not know where the next game would be played – a tough ask for Dave who at the same time was trying to sort out games and officials.
Dave has been superb throughout, always calm, always as keen as mustard and with very few exceptions, always pitch side home and away. Trust me when you get a call at lunch time on Wednesday that your Ref for the evening game is injured and cannot do the game that night – being calm and keen are top attributes !! It happened to Dave several times this season and every time he came up with a top quality official.
He has been superb and a pleasure to work with. I am sure there will be others who will give praise and thanks to Dave for his efforts this season at the presentation, but from me, a warm and genuine thanks for all your help.
We are very lucky at GCAFC and GCAFCYD to have a group of helpers who give their heart and soul to the club. Dave is right up amongst the very best and probably the only Secretary in the Midland Floodlit who also sings his heart out at home matches as well. Thanks Dave.
