Two words - Short Wood. I felt violated and still feel dirty. What a missed chance, but how well we've done since!

I was up at training for the BBC Points West / FA Cup thing and I said to Reidy that we'd go and bloody lose now.
He said "We won't lose to Shortwood...." :frown:

That was the worst result I've seen in my 6 or 7 seasons supporting City, and I'm not expecting to see anything surpass it in the next 50 years!

The cup game at Shortwood - such a good opportunity to encourage more locals to come and watch City and we just didn't turn up at all

Shortwood
I knew it would be tricky after they had played well against us pre-season, but there was just NOTHING in that game to cling to, I just felt so frustrated.
Mangoes at home [and a couple of others] were more of the same and later was it Bashley where we hammered them in the first half but couldn't quite score and then they 'did us' in the second ? That hurt

Come on then, I'd like someone who's supported City longer than me to tell me a more embarrassing result the club have suffered.
No disrespect to Shortwood, but they are a tiny team with a tiny ground with tiny attendances and probably survive on a tiny budget. Certainly all of this is true in comparison to an established South League side such as ourselves. Gloucester has a population of over 100k. What's the population of Shortwood?
I was so dsigusted after this match. I can't imagine many results that could surpass this one (in such an important competition too) in our recent history. Am I wrong?

Embarrasment is usually a word that fits quite aptly to FA Cup exits.
The early nineties brought us exits at home to Weston and then Clevedon, both in the Screwfix league at the time IIRC and both with ex-Tiger Shaun Penny in the side.
A couple of years later a much improved City side were beaten 0-1 at Meadow Park by Cinderford with a certain member of the current coaching staff scoring with a deft lob from thirty yards. Tim Harris might've been the manager too!
Roll on a few years and the side including David Holmes, Dale Watkins et all were humbled 1-3 at home by Thatcham Town of the Hellenic League. One of our fans shouted something at their keeper about they were lucky asthe teams went off at half time, he responded with "You're lucky it's only 0-2" and he was right.
And Joe, you were at Street and Christchurch - you know how it feels!!!

Yeah but this time was just different, all the hype of the round before, the 2 coaches full up there, the amount of publicity we got, the fact that most of the Shortwood fans were FGR fans just there to take the mick, the fact it was the biggest attendance the season, regional news, national newspaper section... I haven't felt so gutted at a football game. (even England-Croatia).

All this and the fact they were local, unlike Street or Christchurch, and that they had hosk and Steadman playing, who were great in their time, but would not be good enough to sit on even Cinderford's bench now.
Maybe my hurt will change over time, but I was insane following the final whistle. I think Andy Payne had to listen to me rant uncontrollably and incoherently for a good 15 minutes or so in the bar after. Cheers mate!

Careless City I Salisbury 3
City going UP if they won, Salisbury going Down
City took the lead and then collapsed, end of the dream!
But Salisburys players very sportily came over to the City supporters at the end of the match,
and commiserated with us, and we responded to them.
Fair does to them.
Sad day indeed !!!

Are you sure they weren't chased over to our fans by that fan who ran onto the pitch?
