Of course GCAFC now have the strongest youth set up we have had in many years - no less than 6 sides now wear the yellow and black with pride throughout the Midlands and beyond. We have some lads from 11 year olds upwards who in their own way and within their own age groups have made a great impact on the club and GCAFCYD will be celebrating their achievements in our end of season presentations, on the GCAFCYD website and of course on here as well.

There is one young man who I would have added to this list and had it not been for injury I am convinced would have been at the top of this poll and thats Sammy Ellis. Sam's full debut performance away at Bromsgrove Rovers was superb, scoring one goal, creating another and playing like someone who had a whole season of Southern League games under his belt, not just a few minutes. In the other games he played a role in he made an impact as well. Lest we forget he was also one of the key players in our run to the 1st round of the FA Youth Cup. Although he has not played since the injury, Sam has missed very few U18 matches, taking his place on the bench and playing a role in the side all the same. I understand his injury is progressing very well and mark my words, he will make quite an impact again once his is fit and back in the groove.

Nobody will win this poll after playing for only 4 minutes, but Callum Preece made history earlier in the month becoming the youngest player to represent the club. Callum was presented with an opportunity and took it with both hands. Dan Wixey also made the move up to the First team and again thoroughly deserved his chance.

I am sure others will say things about Sys so I will leave it to them but just say he deserves to have his name in the poll for sure.

And are there others that will follow the patch of Webby, Smudge, Sammy, Sys and all the others. Absolutley. I watched our Under 14's play on Abbeymead Rovers pitch on Saturday, they played some great stuff, good passing, great positional play, lots of focus and lots of determination. The same could be said of all the other squads as well so hopefully there will be lots more names to add to this thread in years to come.

I've edited the poll to include a few more Dave. I hope Pablo doesn't mind!

Obviously this has Morf's name all over, but my money is on Sammy Ellis for next year, and he'd have run Will pretty close this year if it wasn't for his broken leg.

To be honest wasn't sure Will would qualify for this [sorry Will], but now that he does he gets my vote. Before that it was going to Alex Allard, but again, for me, it is a very close choice.

Just once or twice in a game Alex may miss a simple pass or cross and that can sometimes give a more lasting impression that the other 99% of his game that is assured and very effective

Just Will ahead of Alex

I also believe Alex Allard is a bit of whipping boy for some of the terraces, you are almost waiting for the moans and groans. Yet this season he has improved quite a lot, as I suppose he starts to fill out and get used to this level. He certainly can cross in a good ball, and some of his free kicks have been delivered on a sixpence even if others would have failed hit a circus tent. I think there's more to come from him, a useful squad player.

I say Sam Ellis cos he came from the youth team and looked upto the standard before he was injured playing bloody rugby at school.
