all looks ok at the moment, lovegrove will not bring his ususal plague of bad weather i hope. This linesman has to be the most unluckiest one we have ever had down the grove, I think he has been involved in up to 5 matches that were either abandoned or postponed. Anyway hope you all have a safe trip.

Gutted to lose that, we were the better team for large spells of the second half.
The winning goal came when their 11 was coming back from an offside position blocked Matty Sysum who was tracking the run of 10 (Maquemba?) leaving 10 with a free run on goal.
Tim explains why he was sent off in the interview (http://www.cityladies.co.uk/spf/th110308.wav)...

Just got back and i have to say that the lads battled and gave everything tonight, and i personally thought that a defeat was an unfair result. Webby should have scored when 1 on 1 but bottled it and got the ball caught in his feet. Massive goal lone scramble, and the only thing stopping our goal was reidy.
Good support from the Halesowen lads. I have to say, tonight was an example to Bashley what proper non league support and banter is about! Bashleys fans would have been cringing if they took some of the chants we did tonight! lol!
Play-offs now out of reach i think but congrats has to go to the lads as they have shown true character this season!

i enjoyed it tonight dont think playoff is completely out of reach. I think a 1 -1 would of been a fair result. I think the banter was good tonight and not many teams in this league can have that banter. Kings Lynn would probably cause a riot lol
Neil
11th March 2008, 11:11 PM
1-1 would've been a great result cos I had three draws and a Team Tosser win on a £5 accumulator. Next time you see Eldon, or the lino, tell them that I think their :tosser: for ruining my bet!

i agree the banter is good, but then we are both established southern league clubs with good vocal support, and know what to expect. I enjoyed tonight (apart from the result). It is certainly now between you, kings Lynn and Team Tax Dodger. Chippenham won't challenge, and Bashley although beating us, aren't IMO good enough to beat any of the other top five in a play-off. So personally i would say 2 of those 3 will go up!

11th March 2008, 11:32 PM
Bashley aren't a good team (they couldn't even beat us at home when we were at our worst, and we've lost to some real crap teams this season) but unfortunately you don't need to be to do well in this league. Case in point, we didn't win a league game for almost two months and yet we're still sitting in seventh place with a slim but still possible chance of making the playoffs. Mediocrity is being well rewarded this season, and Bashley are living proof. Halesowen too have a player banging in goals for them who last season looked like a fat caricature of a footballer plying his "trade" in the centre of midfield for us - if Dean Brennan or Bashley's no-necked keeper are good enough for Conference South football then I'm a green-skinned Dutchman.

I don't think the play off challenge is over yet. If we can string a few results together now then we'll have a big game against Chippenham coming up.

I don't think we can play in adverse conditions. First half tuesday night was good and we deserved to be one up I think. Second half was poor although we did play a little better than them IMO. We don't seem to play well when the wind is gale force and the rain is teeming down, saturday was a good example of that, and so was the second half last night.
Good support from the young Halesowen lads, made good noise, wish we could have some of that ilk at FGR, new blood thats what we need on the terraces.

I was proud to be supporting the lads last night and thought they put in a really good performance. On another night we would have held out for a draw or even nicked all three points with the 2 good chances we had 2nd half.
I wish Halesowen all the best for the rest of the season. It is good to see a proper, well supported Southern League team doing well in this league.
What's that people were saying about us being sore losers.........

Good match last night, and I thought we deserved at least a point. Both Yeltz goals seemed to come from defensive errors from where I was watching from the opposite end of the ground. I may be being harsh on Sysum there as I hear he was fouled for the second goal.
But we missed 2 or 3 gilt edged opportunities in the second half, and good teams will always punish you for that. Reidy blocked one of our own shots on the line, someone hoofed the rebound over, and Webby took an air shot when the keeper was already sat on the ground in a 1-on-1 situation.
But to go to the potential champions and nearly win is pretty good really.
And fair play to the Halesowen kids, they do make some noise. Even is most of their songs are pinched from St. Andrews, and relate to beans on toast.

We seem to be getting a lot of fans also saying that we were a good side and deserved to get a draw on their forum, which says a lot about the way we played last night! We never finished our chances, and that is the deciding factor because if we had of finished our chances that last goal wouldn't have mattered anyway!!

I was at the game on Tuesday (obviously from a Yeltz perspective) and just wanted to say what a great ambassador for your club goalkeeper Kev Sawyer is. I was stood behind his goal in both halves.
During the first half he had a bit of friendly banter with the Halesowen fans, but duriing the second half (when everybody was crammed into the Shed because of the weather), he came in for a lot of abuse which he took in good humour.
He is a taleted keeper and very agile for a big lad - he had a good game on Tuesday and was unlucky with the last goal. Nice to see a bit of passion too as he disputed the offside/handball or whatever it was with the linesman and got booked for his trouble.
Well done Kev.
