The biggest game that Bashley have had since their home match against the Scuzz when thousands of fans claim to have been there supporting the Robins!

Updates can be found here (http://www.livescores.co.uk/myTeamLive.jsp?account=3&match=802) courtesy of Clifty

Bash
8th March 2008, 06:26 PM
Forgot to mention, do you ever give any other team credit for giving you a beating - maybe your not turning up could be translated for "outplayed" radical thought i know but hold it for a while and se what happens..........

tigermatty
8th March 2008, 06:26 PM
Gifted indeed, by the looks of it they came with a game plan to stop us scoring and try to nick a goal, they probably didn't realise how easy it was going to be, we created very little, and struggled to string more than one pass together at times. Results elsewhere didn't do us any favours by the look of it but at least we have more opportunities to take points off the teams above us coming up.

8th March 2008, 06:28 PM
Was fairly even up until half-time with City probably just having the better of it, despite going a goal down, though we were probably also guilty of not taking most of any chances available to both sides either. We couldn't seem to cope with the tailwind and most of our balls went way too far for either Pitch or Palmer to make even any contact with. Bashley goal just before H/T was slightly against run of play and came from yet another City ball given away in the middle of the pitch.

Second half Bashley only had the upper hand because of City's mistakes: giving the ball away, not looking up when heading or clearing and not keeping the ball on the ground as much as we should have done. Their second was a lob over Sawyer and prob helped into the back of the net more by the tailwind than anything.

Overall, not the best City performance but it wasn't an awful one. I'm not gonna complain on the back of two fantastic mid-week results. We've played a lot of the top and in-form sides of late so getting anything was always gonna be tough. It's not all over yet!

Bash
8th March 2008, 06:36 PM
Jeez hark at you lot, giving the ball away - i'm no John Motson but i know how Bashley play. If your midfield could not get their feet on the ball and play it's because our midfield work their b*lls off during a game to ensure the opposition "give the ball away", other people might say that our midfield unit out played yours but i'm sure that you will disagree and that you "just didn't turn up".

Scrappy game and as I hear Noah shout 'Ref not played attention to detail'.

Did anyone else notice the Bashley No:2 (captain) in the second half, deliberately landed one on Reid's chin when actual play was several yards away? The officials certainly didn't.

Selection of some of the results today, confirmed (http://www.southern-football-league.co.uk/results/premier.asp?section=results):

Brackley 3 - Bromsgrove 0
Chips 3 - Martyrs 0
Ciren 3 - Halesowen 2 (last min winner)
Hitch 2 - Tax 1
Linnets 5 - Yate 0
Rugby 1 - Hemel 2

That all leaves us in 6th, level with Hemel and Brackley on 51. Yeah, so we lost today, big deal. Still 10 games to go and everything to play for.

Bash, you are right in the way you described your teams play, not the best team i have seen this season but were very profesional and worked hard.
But to come on the oppositions forum being ##### and then not expect abuse back shows you are the opposite of your team !

tigermatty
8th March 2008, 07:26 PM
I think Bashley showed us a lot of respect today in the way they set out, they knew they were facing a team who have been scoring goals for fun so they parked the proverbial team bus in front of their goal. Had we shown a bit more creativity and calmness we may have broken them down.

Bash
8th March 2008, 07:40 PM
Point taken Badsy, but it's a bit rich of you lot to be saying that you defeated yourselves with little or no input from us.

I think i'm right in saying that prior to the match we got very little respect from certain members of this forum regarding both our team and our set up, (maybe you got a little carried away with a couple of wins over poor sides) put that together with the lovely welcome that we recieved from your fans(?) and i would be surprised if the reaction that Gloucester gleaned from any opposition fan differs too much from mine.

I do not expect my family and friends to be abused by your so called support when the welcome that you recieved in the Forest was nothing less than friendly, is it not time that many Gloucester fans learnt what it was to support a team? It certainly does not include the crassness dished out today by you to a friendly and welcoming (small) bunch of supporters. If we are in the same league again next season what sort of respect and welcome would want and expect from Bash and their fans at our place?

Bad result today but we didn't help ourselves by constantly launching the ball in the air against a side who knew how to deal with it and start their own attacks. Their second goal killed the game and it went flat both on and off the pitch afterwards.

Hopefully we can pick ourselves back up for tuesday

Quick, get onto the league now and tell them to halt the league programme as it's all done and dusted and that every team apart from Lynn (who we took apart at our place) would be a disgrace if they went up besmirching the very name of the southern league if they dared show their faces in the Southern Conf.

If we were that bad it's only because we didn't turn up, lucky we didn't really as it could have turned embarrassing for you.

Are you lot for real?

Simon
8th March 2008, 08:03 PM
We were very poor today, such a disappointment as this was probably our biggest game recently too. I don't know what went wrong but we weren't passing on the floor like we have done, and consequently torn teams apart, but we were brought down to Bashley's level of hoofing the ball and losing possesion very easily.

It would be fair to say that if we played the way we have done against Team Bath and Tiverton we would've won. Bashley weren't anything different from what we've seen in this league, that's what makes today such a disappointment.

I can't actually remember Sawyer making a notable save during the match. Frustrating but I suppose from a Bashley point of view it would've been a perfect away performance, two goalscoring chances, two goals from two mistakes. Weak referee today as well, very leniant when most referees would've booked half the Bashley side.

Very poor advert for Southern League Football, when we all know it can be so much better. Disappointing, however Halesowen on Tuesday night now, important game. Come on City!

Are you lot for real?Bashley were like Real AC Madrid Milan Rovers. Awesome, never seen football like it. One of our lads said it was a joy to be on the same pitch as their shadows that they were chasing. They are a true credit, not only to this league but also the league above, the Conference, the Norweigen second division and the Sydenhams Wessex League.

Is that better cock breath?

We just werent good enough today, Bashley's central defense were there for the taking, making lots of poor passes out and we didnt do anything about it. They hit us on the break 1st half, then played the better second. Our 2nd half performance was very dissapointing, did we have a shot on goal? I have to say I can except defeat but when it comes against a little poxy village or whatever it is like Bashley with a travelling support that could fit on to their pony its hard to stomach. We have to remember, no matter how frustrating it us, clubs go up from this league even if they do have a piss poor support like Bashley. You dont get promoted simply by how many fans you take away or how loud you are. Otherwise we would have been up years ago.

Once again I'm scratching my head as to how a player can get away with incitement, the number 9 for them was making all sorts of gestures to our supporters literally right infront of the ref who was oblivious to it.

Dissapointed with a section of our crowd and I am kind of in agreement with the Bashley fans on here. Their travelling support for a team in the play offs playing a fellow promotion rival was quite frankly woeful, however they were pretty quiet and didnt deserve the abuse they got. It's not like they came into our end looking for a fight or kicking off. Its getting embarrasing now. What is even more embarrasing is the same few doing it if we did get promoted would soon shut their mouths if they were doing it to Newport or the like as they'd run the risk of getting their heads kicked in, but are quite willing to gob off to pensioners like at the Bedford game. Seriously just cut it out

Got to say that's it baffling from our perspective that we can get as many as four hundred plus for a home game and then play away the following week and take twenty tops. It does need looking at as we do need to take more away -mind you just as well that we did not take many today due to your abuse of us. Better that kind of thing is kept behind closed doors eh.

i must apologise for my drunken messages last night, amazing what that cider does to your brain! lol!!

Now i have sobered up, i still have to say that we threw the points away yesterday. Bashley were certainly nothing special, however we just never turned up today!

I guess that we have to lose a game occasionally, lets all not forget the situation that we are in, and realise just how well we are actually doing! There are still plenty of points to play for, and it certainly i not over. If we continue to play the way that we know we can, then the only way is onwards and upwards!

On to tuesday now, where i think that we are more than capable of getting a result on our day ( Thats if the latest weather front doesn't get the game called off again)

Yesterday was my first City game since Chippenham at home on New Years Day. Bashley are a team ive been to watch a couple of times due to them being close to where I live down in Bournemouth and what we saw yesterday is typical of their play. They have a strong pair of central defenders who can soak up the pressure and if Mr. Gillespie gets into some space then they wont hesitate in lumping it forward to him. This worked well yesterday against our slower than average backline.

I was disappointed by some of our supporters and the taunts they decided to subject the Bashley supporters to. There may have only been half a dozen of them at our end by why do we insist on calling them **** supporters, **** team, **** ground etc. It does us no favours. Its frankly embarrassing for grown men to be waiting around after the game to continue the abuse as these supporters try to leave the ground. Hopefully I can build a few bridges when i next go and watch the Bash but i wouldnt blame them if they told me to **** off, like they were.

Dissapointing result - we just didn't turn up and didn't look like scoring.

Two sloppy goals to give away is not good but lets get behind the lads and hope they can get a result at Halesowen on Tuesday.

We still have a chance of the play offs and some of the teams above us are dropping points so you never know. Whatever happens the team have done fantastic to get themselves in to this position and with all the club have had to deal with a top half finish would be an amazing achievement - anything better than that is a bonus.

Okay, the game was dire. Not what we have been use to for a while, more reminiscent of the start of the season.
Since when was our game the 'high ball' stuff ? To be honest, I would have thought management would have sorted this at half-time, but there it is we lost not just the game but the fact that the gate turnout was higher and our performance was sadly lacking. Very disappointing.

Lets now move on, hopefully we can put this right on Tuesday night. It's not over 'till the fat lady sings [hopefully that's not me]

It's getting a bit worrying now tho isn't it? This isn't the first game that there have been comments about the level of personal abuse directed at opposition fans. There is a difference between a bit of banter - and nasty, unnecessary abuse. And it sounds like we have fans who are regularly crossing that line.

We have a reputation for passionate and noisy fans - but would be very sad if we also got a reputation for being an unpleasant and unsafe place for opposition fans to go. That away fans wouldn't bother coming or bringing kids etc.

I don't know what can be done but it really needs to stop. Maybe someone could have a word with those responsible?

Two of FIFA's 10 Golden Rules would seem to be apt at this moment in time -

Respect Opponents, Teammates, Referees, Officials and Spectators
Fair Play means respect. Without opponents there can be no game. They have the same rights as you have, including the right to be respected. Your teammates are your colleagues. You form a team in which all members are equal. Referees are there to maintain discipline and Fair Play. Always accept their decisions without arguing, and help them to help you enjoy the game more. Officials are also part of the game and must be respected accordingly. Spectators give the game atmosphere. They want to see the game played fairly, but must also behave fairly themselves.

Accept Defeat with Dignity Nobody wins all the time. You win some, you lose some. Learn to lose graciously. Don't seek excuses for defeat. Genuine reasons will always be self-evident. Congratulate the winners with good grace. Don't blame the referee or anyone else. Determine to do better next time. Good losers earn more respect than bad winners.
