Today is the 125th Anniversary of the formation of a Gloucester Association Football Club. The momentous event was announced in The Gloucester Journal of 10 March 1883 -
Gloucester Association Football Club – A meeting of association players was held on Monday to consider the advisability of forming a club under association rules. The meeting was well attended, and a resolution was passed that a club should be formed, and the election of officers was forthwith proceeded with. Mr. W.H. Clarke, British School, was, appointed secretary. Already the club has enrolled 25 members.
Congratulations Gloucester City and may today kick-off a bright future.
