Well with that result it makes this game huge. Let's make the same kind of noise and atmosphere at Yate for this one. Drag every friend, relative etc out to the game (although leave the pets at home, dont follow Yate that much!). The lads really deserve a decent turn out. Dunno how many Bashley will bring, frankly the less the better.
Hopefully the Citizen will give us some decent coverage, god knows they deserve it, and not be bleating on about the egg chasers crying about tickets on Ebay!!!!

My original thought was that tonight would be the tougher of the two games so I feel quite confident for Saturday. Adie Mings would've been a worried man as he sat in the stand tonight watching the game.

Will be a totally different proposition. I believe they have only lost once at home, as have Bashley & King's Lynn, but having said that we have as good away record as anyone. I obviously use away loosely as all our games are currently away.

This is a massive game and would be great to get around 400 for it. Can't imagine Bashley will bring many with them though.

Bob, I do wish you would stop going on about 'decent coverage'.
Gloucester City will not knock the rugby off the back page, as there are 15000 people inside Kingsholm every week and we sell more papers on the back of the rugby than anything else.
City get a perfectly adequate level of coverage for the level they play at.
As Neil has explained, our deadline for the paper in midweek is 9.45pm - basically as soon as the game finishes - so there is little scope for us to do much more than a match report.
In fact, with that deadline, we are even pushing it to get the report in!

I understand Bob's concerns but I do have to say that in my opinion the Citizen do their best to get any sort of report out. It wouldn't be fair to aim any criticism at the paper's staff, maybe a fairer criticism would be aimed at the paper's owners and the way they have restructured in the County. I understand that for journalists the workload has gone up while the reward has not, and there are many areas that simply cannot be covered, either. I wouldn't expect Mark to agree publicly (if he does agree at all).
I would say that Mark Halliwell has given some good coverage in the past few years to the club, especially compared with what was happening previous to this, but as always we are looking for more column space (partciualrly with regards to CTFC who have the Echo, the Echo, the Echo).
Any chance of some sort of full page match preview spread for Friday's paper? I'd be happy to contribute an 'article'.

It's not always about attendances. Only 300-odd people may turn up for City games but there are thousands, if not tens of thousands in Gloucester who follow the football club's results on a regular basis, mainly through the local rag, even at the current level they are playing at. Also, it's not always the same 300-odd supporters that turn up to each game. Thousands of different people go through the turnstiles through the course of a season. Put it this way, if City ever played in a Wembley cup-final would only 300 people turn up?!
Anyway, turning matters back to Saturday, Bashley are another very in-form side, particularly away from home, so this is another tough test at home.

That's fair enough I suppose.
However it doesn't explain why today, our 125th Anniversary, something that should be heralded and celebrated. Gets a throwaway line in the Match report whereas when Gloucester Rugby had their 125th anniversary the attention they received was phenomenal. This was something that could've been caught upon to let the people of Gloucester know they have a Football club to be proud of.
We have no stadium, poor attendances and massive adversity against us...yet we're 1 point off the Playoffs? Certainly that's something that could be made a bit clearer as well?

It would be nice to get a more noticeable spread in the paper. Especially at the present considering the run the club have been on recently. This would then attract more people, which would benefit the club.
Everywhere you turn too in the citizen its covered in Glos Rugby, Cheltenham town, forest green etc.
Move all the Cheltenham stuff to the echo, their the ones that are interested. Do people from Glos go to watch Chelt? im not sure they do?

There is no CT stuff in the Cit, and has not been for several weeks.
Yes, people from Gloucester do go to Whaddon, and I regularly get emails asking why there is not more CT coverage in the Cit, so it works both ways.

News of our move to Cirencester and the allocation of £10K by the City Council from the global sum they received from Severn Trent was given full coverage on Monday evening - in both the Citizen and The Echo. (I was photographed with a load of balls, and some ball carriers).
We have to be as quick to recognise the good coverage as we are to complain, (legitimately, of course), about what's not done.

I think its a tad unfair to say I'm always having a bad word against the Citizen or having a go at the lack of coverage. That isnt the case at all, If you check through posts on here I actually praised you for the coverage we recieved during the flooding period and Waterwells etc. I also fully understand the deadlines you have to adhere to for weekday match reports and appreciate the hard work that goes into them appearing in the paper in time.
All I was simply saying is that it would be nice to make a little of the back page this Friday. Not pushing Gloucester RFC completley out the way, literally just a smidgen of the back page. With us playing the team directly above us in the play offs I thought it would be nice if the team got some good coverage regarding the match in Friday nights paper which may boost the attendance and the Gloucester publics knowledge of how the citys football team is doing that is all.
The only gripe I have had recently is the fact that when we made the play offs and won 5 nil away at Rugby, a record away win for the league and a debutant scoring a hat trick, we didnt get a mention on the back page other than the ticker at the top and the league table, or even top of it, was not printed under the report. Personally I feel these were valid reasons to bring them up at the time.
Anyway I look foward to Fridays sport news, thats if Ryan Lamb hasnt chucked a kebab at some girl the night before of course...
Only joking.

Bobcarolgees, you wear your City heart on your sleeve. I agree,
I would like more coverage than we get from the Media, but in fairness Citizen does his best !
When we get promoted............perhaps things will get even better.

I'm with Noah on this one. The Citizen have given us really good coverage recently. This week actually springs to mind with the 10k donation and there was an interview with Tim about Marcus Palmer on Saturday, even though we didn't have a game!
I would however have liked to have seen more in the way of 125st Anniversary mentions, however we have a big game on Saturday so we don't know their might be more coverage then just before our big game, rather than just after a game where they only have a short deadline.

Why would we need a so-called up grade when our forum does what it says on the tin?

Back to the age old Citizen coverage issue, we have to accept that as long as we are unsuccessful in terms of silverware then we will never get the same coverage as GRFC: they attract 15000+ fans, and have a team of Internationals on TV every week and are based in (whether we like it or not) a City with a massive Rugby heritage. The Citizen don't hold guns to their heads, the fans come because they are a successful team. How many times down the years have we blown the opportunity to raise our profile by getting knocked out in the FA Cup, missing out on promotion etc? Add to this two other local football teams who get national TV and press coverage, I think we are lucky that the Citizen even bother covering our games.

7th March 2008, 10:37 AM
This isn't JUST to chill Neil out, but the fact that Tigerroar is always a better source of info than the Citizen and so many are online now, newspaper coverage doesn't matter as much as it used to. The only wqay we can improve radio, TV and press coverage generally is to win something or get promotion. If we got the palyoff semis/final there is surely scope for Central Sports coverage given our general plight.
Agree with Tiger Matty about always blowing our chances of grabbing some headlines - not the Citizen's fault. Really miss the 'Pink One', sorry 'Un, mind, as there was nothing like seeing city win and popping out and reading pages of gossip, match reports and player profiles and keeping an eye on the lower leagues. Bring it back!!!!
