Quality result. Makes up for the poor 3-2 loss earlier in the season.
I'm really excited about seeing this lad Palmer in action. Anyone know the last player to score a debut hat-trick? It was certainly before I started watching City. Pretty sure Corbett scored a couple on his debut, but not a hat-trick. Very good.

Watched the Students v Kings Lynn tonight. KL look a very good side and given the game against us and the match tonight, be surprised if TB stay up there.
Before the sending off,KL were much the better side, man for man across the pitch, TB were not strong enough.the KL centre forward likes the ball to his feet and is strong enough to hold it up perhaps in a way that Will and Jack would not be able to. KL are like giants at the back and the closing down by the midfield was very impressive.bit of TB pressure at the start of the 2nd half but that was really it. Sending off probably deserved but TB could have easily gone down to 9 when their number 4, booked against us, made the most amazing shoulder charge after already being booked.
Left before the end but get your money on KL and bet TB to blow it.
think I might have gone to the wrong game though . . . . . . still a bit closer ! well for me anyway

26th February 2008, 11:26 PM
I had already pre-empted Joe's enquiry about the last City player to score a hat-trick on his debut in a competitive match when Marcus Palmer had knocked in his second goal.
The last player I found was a Mr. Bolting (forename unknown) who scored 4 goals against Royal Air Force 'B' at Longlevens in the Gloucester City Hurran Cup League on 24 April 1943.
During the war another six players also scored a hat-trick on their debut as Gloucester City played many guest players in the League mentioned above against mostly Armed Forces sides.
If we are uncomfortable with war-time records you could say that the legendary Reg Weaver was the last City player to score a hat-trick on debut on 28 August 1937 against Birmingham 'A' in the Birmingham Combination at Longlevens.
Whichever you choose it is still a long time since this happened and before most of us were born. Indeed an historic day.

Mainwaring's debut was away at the Old Lawn wasn't it? Don't think there was a hat-trick involved, he got one against Burton once I think.
Well done city by the way, crunch match on the 8th!

Rugby were really poor i thought tonight! They couldn't defend if their life depended on it and lacked ideas going forward. I think they should be looking worryingly over their shoulders as all the teams in the religation zone have games in hand!
Marcus was quick, and nearly always first to the ball!
What a result! We knew it was coming!!!
Neil
26th February 2008, 11:39 PM
Excellent result and performance, City were never in danger of letting the three points slip against a Rugby team who were restricted to shooting from outside the box bar from a free header for David Stone which was glanced wide.
First goal was a near post header from a corner.
Second was a Syko penalty after Jack had been crudely tripped in the box, no hint of dishonesty as has reared it's ugly head. The referee had no hesitation and was right in front of the foul.
Marcus' first was a tap in from a Smudger cross.
His second was from a flicked on corner where he poked the ball past the keeper from close range.
And the hat trick saw him arrive late into a goalmouth scramble and slam the ball home in the six yard box.
Amazingly I wasn't impressed with him as an attacking team player but the important thing is that his positioning around the box is awesome and just goes to show that with a goalscorer we can bury teams.
I'm only disappointed that Chipp won!
Mike

Really top performance - and dont forget, no Ricco, Morf or Alex tonight. Matt Sysum did very well and played the 90 mins, whilst Dan Wixey came on and did well for 20 odd minutes. Jody Taylor did get his run-out for a quarter and looked lively. The third Youth teamer to get on was Adie Harris, I think he might have a chance of making it, that lad

Good timing for Yate to regain their confidence in front of goal - they are away to Bashley on Saturday and could do us a favour. Rugby will need to show their cojones though and bounce back against Chippenham away.
