Rough and tumble kind of game.

Crap ref who, on the advice of the linesman sent the wrong player off. Reidy got chinned, who do you red card out of a mild mannered, wouldn't say boo to a goose university lecturer or a wild, nasty piece of work?!!!

Shocker really, throughout the game he was pointing here, there, there and there to their players saying one more and you'll be booked but he was booking our playersa for their first fouls. I think we have five in all at the end (Muzzie, Ricco, Ash, Smudge and Jack). Pitcher was booked when he was flagged offside and ran through and scored after the whistle, although he was easily onside when flagged.

Frustrating afternoon on the pub pitch...

what a bunsh of twats their female fans are! their one fan who had more fake tan than boots almost caused something to kick off!

We didn't really deserve to win because we just weren't good enough, but we had the chances.

I had an argument with their officials at the end who were living in a different world. I had to walk away in the end before i said something i regretted. And i know that obviously she reads this forum and my words to you are "get with the real world, and only comment if you know the full story!"

The funniest moment of today was the slapper with the fake tan!

Made our day and i feel sorry for her bloke!

I thought that yate deserved the points but were let down by their supporters. I think that Team bath fans made more noise on wed than the yate fans, and that says it all! Yes they have a ground whereas we don't, but the their fans do not deserve to be supporting a team in the premier as they are just awful! worst support in the league? so far this season i would have to say yes! It was a case of try and find the yate fan in their bar!

Think overall 1-1 was a fair result. We seemed to be under the cosh for long periods of the game and our best chances came on the counter-attack. However, our final passing wasn't great or the moves ended with shots way off target. And what does it take to occasionally look up before clearing a ball or delivering a through ball? I'm sure the boys know they can do better.

Can't complain too much about a point away from home especially after a tough mid-week game. Just a shame that Brackley and Bashley won. There's also a lot of teams breathing down our necks too and looking at our run-in...

My second game in a week, what's going on?!

Decent game and a shame we didn't come away with all three points. We had the better of the game but couldn't finish it off.

I think the few fans that they had there were an embaresmant to the club. Having a go at us for their manager nearly breaking down the refs door is just shocking

In one aspect Yate FC are more fortunate than Glos City FC,they are important enough that Radio Bristol sent a radio reporter and car to cover the match.

I had a few words with him, and about our lack of coverage from our crew.

He said it was "Local interest" in the community and involvement!

Hereford and Worcs give coverage to every match in their patch, Stourport gets more than a mention, and who ever heard of Stourport?

Maybe Radio Glos staff would get lost up one of the valleys if they left "The Big City!"

IMO a poor game, can't remember Kev having to make a save and I can only remember :tosser:Court making a couple, only one in the second half.
Didn't create enough chances against a crap team if you ask me.

I thought we were very unlucky today not to win today. The chances that we had in the first half should've been sufficient for a victory. The second half wasn't good in my opinion, Yate dominated but I felt we defended strongly. Another 2 points dropped but in hindsight we probably could've lost, so a welcome point.

The noise from the City fan's was fantastic, all credit for really getting behind the team. However, I know a few people, including myself, wasn't too pleased by the abuse directed towards the women standing in front of us. I mean seriously people, one of them was like 15 ffs, just imagine how bad it looks 40/50 grown men verbally abusing 3 women, one of them a juvenile? Not a pretty sight at all.

I have to apologise to them, it was probably heat of the moment, but it's still very wrong.

Yate Town are a nice, friendly club which I have no problem with personally, but I thought this was out of order for the normally great support we have.

7th in the League now, so we're in a strong position coming into the run in. Come on you Yellows!

Great result for Yate.

Say what you like about the Yate fans, it really matters not. We get similar attendances to you in a town a fifth the size so what's the problem.

The fans you say are poor turn up every week through thick and thin in all weathers, travel away from home and do a hell of a lot of work in raising funds etc, just like you so in what aspect are we poor?

Oh, we don't make as much noise.... and that makes us poor. At least we don't get in a gang and harass women supporters, you brave twats.

Hey, you can't blame Jethro for being appreciative of "real" support.

And on the subject of Harassment, maybe you want to look a bit closer to home as your manager/assistant did a pretty good job of harassing the match officials at the end of the game. Im sure that little outburst will go in the referees report, even if he did send the wrong bloke off

Yate seems to be turning into a local derby
Sloppy passing cost us that win and Yate in farness didnt look any different at almost any point with 10 than they did with 11.
The yate guy was a bit unnecessary with Syko but go to say, he would be a good addition to our side, thought Lee found it difficult to get the better of him.

What were we doing with those long range shots, some of the players just seemed to panic a bit.

The only think more orange that the woman with the incredibly small head was that dog, why would you take a dog to the ground, well two in Yate's case ! !

Thought it was a case of two points lost yesterday as City looked the better side but again we were made to pay for not taking chances, seems to be a recurring theme at the moment

On the positive side the support was excellent, something Yate can only dream of and that manager wants to sort himself out, that little outburst should be in the refs report :tosser:

Next time you're having one of your chummy chats with Jethro and he runs down the Yate fans tell him I said to **** Off somewhere else if he doesn't like it here

Yate fan you only get sililar attendances due to the away support. We are playing at a ground nowhere near the city, so for us to get similar attendances to other clubs at the moment is outstanding. If city fans weren't there yesterday you would have a team bath style attendance. I need say no more!

I believe that it was actually them that started the problem pablo.

The Cleric
24th February 2008, 10:10 AM
Thought the ref was awful yesterday........how can The Cleric defend these clowns.............

If you read my views about referees correctly I am not defending them but merely trying to put some perspective on the matter. It is a thankless task and it is not only referees in our division who get abused/make mistakes but even top knotch referees can be prone to criticism. They are damned if they do and they are damned if they don't. They can only please half the audience. So maybeez it's our attitudes that should come under scrutiny.
I suggest those who roundly criticise the officials ask themselves would I want that job and I would think the vast majority would say no. I know I certainly would not. All I say is take it on the chin and move on. I subscribe to the swings and roundabouts theory. I never argued with a ref when I played because I observed very quickly it was a waste of time. As a striker I sometimes benefited from poor decisions and on other occasions I thought I was hard done by but treated both circumstances with alacrity.
If any of you wish to become referees can I recommend www.footballreferee.org

Why don't you look at who has posted before you quote the wrong person Clifty!

And Simon is right, it was embarrasing. I said it weeks ago, we don't need to be getting involved with these kind of things. We were all there yesterday to support the club, with all the colour and noise, in the end it just turned into a bunch of hooligans having a go at other fans just like at Bedford (I was videoing down the other end, so I only heard on hear what happened).

To the game, two points dropped, but we wouldn't have expected to beat Team Bath so 4 points from 6, is pretty good!

I'll agree that a core of fans that regularly sing on the terraces would be good for Yate. Maybe that will come in time. It isn't unheard of and I remember singing in the T-end with 20 or so other Yate fans when we raced into a 2 goal lead at Meadow Park last season  I'm sure you all remember cringing at the back of the T-End as we celebrated!

Anyway, I think the 3 matches between Yate and Gloucester have been excellent VFM full of goals, incident and controversy, and some occasional good football too.

You took the honours in the cup , we took the points in the league, so no complaints there. If we put all the petty name calling and arguments about the best fans, most fans to one side it is a compelling fixture, my favourite of the season....even moreso than the mangos.

What I don't get about the sending off is none of the officials saw the incident and relied on Sawyer's testimony to make a decision. Now since when did that happen? That's why Sawyer got so much grief from the Yate fans behind his goal. He lied to the ref and got a player sent off who didn't deserve it. That's why Thommo was so rightly pissed off.

Btw the Red Setter was mine and I don't normally take her to matches but the wife and kids were out all day and I don't always like to see her couped up in the house.

Yeah it probably was some of our best matches of the season, it's just a shame that it needs to be spoilt.

I agree all this petty name calling should stop now and it's all well and good going on Yate forum and saying that after people have been ripping it out of Yate for the best part of a week, but next time shall we make sure that it doesn't even happen in the first place!

Yatesman I find it difficult except the whole "we get similar attendances but we're a small town" argument knowing full well our fans make a 30 mile round trip to watch a game and still get more than you. If you were in a smilar situation you'd struggle to break 100 and you know it.

Oh, we don't make as much noise.... and that makes us poor. At least we don't get in a gang and harass women supporters, you brave twats.

Well you got 1 thing right, our vocal backing and numbers is something you could only dream of. And we didnt actually harass them, they came into our end which was full of our supporters and yeah they got a bit of friendly banter as they were shouting come on courty and the like, I hardly think that means we are twats pal. The actual abuse from us didnt start until Viki Pollard and her day glow mum, old git and yourself (plus pooch of course) started ffing and blinding about how we were pathetic (whilst watching your manager kicking the refs door in..hmm...)

Next time you're having one of your chummy chats with Jethro and he runs down the Yate fans tell him I said to **** Off somewhere else if he doesn't like it here.

Maybe it was just nice for him to see a large, loyal, noisy and partisan following for a change instead of having to applaud your usual following, i.e yourself, Fido and Marmaduke?

Anyway 1-1 in your cup final.

I believe Kev asked the following question to yate fans "if a punch wasn't thrown what is are man doing laid out on the floor sporting a bruised eye"
If he lied, please tell us what actually happend ? Not Kev's fault that the lino and ref got the wrong man but Reidy wasn't laid on the floor for the fun of it me thinks.

Seriously, the point about the sending off was, yes there was an incident, I didn't see it so don't know if it was a punch, elbow or clash of heads, but due to Sawyer's intervention the wrong man got sent off. He could have tried to stop that happening but chose not too. That's why he's a cheat.

Justice was done when the ball went thru his legs for the equalizer.

One final point about our fan base. ...Rovers were at home on Saturday and every week literally hundreds of Yate folk head on up to The Memorial ground to support The Gas. This is a very strong Rovers supporting area. All morning I was passing groups in their Blue and White Quartered shirts heading into Bristol. It's the same to a slightly lesser extent with Bristol CityWhilst City and Rovers are doing well it impacts on our support at Lodge Rd...........I don't think you have a similar problem in Gloucester, but I assure you it is an issue here.

Two points dropped yesterday really. When you're winning and the other side is down to 10 men, that should be game over really. And a very disappointing goal to let in.

We looked strong going forward, but tired late on. You can tell we've been playing 2 games a week recently. If it wasn't for Muzzie we could have lost. He was, as always, outstanding.

And yes, the two girls in the second half were making snide little comments, to which me and Darren intelligently responded with quips relating to the league table and the 5-1 earlier in the season. But things got a bit of hand and a bit embarrassing after that with people shouting 'f*ck off' at them and asking if they take it up the arse. Bit much to be honest. I think we're better than that and shouldn't sink to that level.

I think the best thing to comment on and sing about is our team and players, to encourage them and to help them play with more confidence. To sing about the other team's players, fans and ground only spurs them on play better. Singing about the ref seems to be a waste of time for the main part too, especially calling him a ****er when he gives a throw in against us or similar. And Cheltenham songs, although fun when you're 3-0 up, are an absolute waste of breath when you're clinging to a 1 goal lead.

So get behind your football team, be constructive, and sing us into the play-offs. They deserve it.

Well said, Joe. Wise beyond your years. It's an obviosity(!) that negativity all round be it on The Forum or at the ground will spur the opposition on and is counter productive to what we all want. Not meaning to sh1t stir (honest) I saw the incident and the female Yate fan told the City fan to shutup when he walked up to the goal and hurled abuse at their keeper. To be honest his (the City fan) reaction to this was pretty dispicable, I personally wouldn't want to show my face in public for a while if I intimidated a woman and her family like that...

These young ladies were certainly not all sweetness and light and did their best to wind everyone up in our end.

The bit that got me was when their manager was trying to get in to the referees dressing room and tantastic turns around to have a go at us all (singing towards their manager) to say it is only a game. If it's only a game luv why are you and your manager getting so wound up about it

Also when a few of us were outside enjoying a pint after the game one of the young ladies came out called us all a bunch of :tosser: then slammed the door - very nice

That said I think it is time to draw a line under this match and move on to the next one tomorrow with the fantastic, united (city!) support we know we have at this club.

Ah, truth emerges. May have to partially retract my previous comment.

I thought I had when I heard you talking about going on a diet and wearing moisturiser. Still, don't worry mate, I'll not turn my back on you, any fan of City is welcome even if cross-dresser, pre-op transexual, Welsh etc etc. And may I say what a stirling job your doing as President of the Hayley Cropper fan club. But where is she, I'm getting worried!?

Enjoy the game
