What options do we have?

Personally I believe another season at FGR (if it can be agreed / if it is offered) will see us fold. I'm told it takes 3 home games at current gate levels to pay 1 weeks wages. Don't know how true that is, but its not sustainable beyond this season surely (A big thanks to whoever is paying the wages this season by the way).

Unfortunately in my eyes it's looking like another season at FGR. Not a fan of the place myself.:frown:

Hows an alternative going to be any different?

Anyone fancy spending summer saturdays bringing Tuffley Rovers upto (hopefully) Conf South standard?

On what basis do you have that? Whats the point in tittle tattle if there is no tangible evidence to support it?
We won't go broke, how many times has that one come out. We are Gloucester City and as fans we wont, havent and dont let that happen. As for what happens next season lets just concentrate on this one for the time being and support the lads as best we can. Then in the close season see what is happening. I'm sure people at the club are working very hard behind the scenes to make sure we are alright.

Chris that is what Tim said after that sportsmans dinner, that it takes 3 home games to raise £3000

I wasnt referring to that mate, just about that we will go bust if we have one more season at FGR. If that was the case it would be splashed all over the papers and the pressure on the council etc would be huge to find us a home asap.

what about silmbridges ground ?

To me the best option tempory would be to have temporary stands at Tuffly Rovers or Slimbridge but the costs needs to stack up, they both have floodlights and are in easy access to the City. My preference would be T Rovers. Whne you look at the costs of the stewards etc it may stack up. The biggest problem may be a wall around the pitch as per SL regulations

I know that a lot of work is being carried out to try and get a new ground but this takes time, hopefully an anouncement will be soon!!!!

Is a return to the field of dreams and dead seagulls that is Meadow Park one of the options being considered?.... still can't believe we've walked away from MP without a parachute!

i agree with graham and see a temporary ground at tuffley rovers with temporary stands being the main option. it means you are still in the city, will get larger attendances, your own bar or shared profits for a bar with tuffley rovers would be money you wouldn't have this season etc. at the moment it must be like pouring money down the drain :frown: who is it who makes the decision on where you get a ground?! and does anyone know whether the idea of tuffley rovers and a temporary ground has been seriously considered by those who run GCAFC?

If it ment moving to Tuffly i would def 100% give up at least a day every week in the close season to make this happen as to have it back in Gloucester would be great!! Slimbridge still be crap and not many people would get their.
Tuffly means any one can go, just jump on bus and dosent restrict non drivers!!

The biggest problem may be a wall around the pitch as per SL regulations.Isn't it odd how you need a wall for the SL but not for the Conference!

Tuffley rovers dont have a club house whicj means that one would have to be built!

Adam

Tuffley Rovers do have a club house but it is over the other side of Cole Avenue. I think the site is too restricted with housing very close to be developed much. Have a look at the pictures on this link http://picasaweb.google.com/nigel.meaney/TuffleyVHighridge090208?authkey=MXiLtnvXbY8
If that dosn,t work look on the County League site and click on the news section and follow the link.

Whats the capacity there? Maybe the club can send a sos out to someone asking for a temporary stand for it to get us back in the city for the time being? I know Gloucester RFC used temporary stands for a while at Kingsholm that were from Silverstone race track. Not that asking them for help will do much..!
Surely it could be good pr for a club to help us out? Several non league clubs have benefitted from near higher neighbours moving ground and using the turnstiles or seats from their old stands. Such as when Derby moved from the baseball ground, Boro left Ayrseome park, Southampton left the Dell etc. Billingham, Alfreton, Eastleigh all benefited in some way. I think Leicester City donated some seats to a club near them too. What would we need to do to get Tuffley up to scratch? Would we even be able to use it seen as they have dropped several leagues now?

Have you seen the new stand at FGR?, (Shudder)

What about a ground share with somone like Gordon League?...

Outside Whaddon The Brittania, and TNL the next best facilities must be Rugby clubs. I watched the two Forest rugby derby's - 2500 at one and over 3000 at the other, more drinking beer behind the goals that watch the average Southern League match, and not a hard surface in sight

One ground that might be worth looking at is Harrow Hill... Great little clubhouse, good changing rooms, big pitch, and brilliant white floodlights. It's also cut out of a bank so potential for temp stands. And only about 13miles from Gloucester

If you stay in the play offs and then get promoted, the only venue you could play at in the Conference South would be The New Lawn (assuming the Egg-Chasers don't change their stance). With funding issues would the board of Gloucester then take the decision not to accept promotion if it came along ?

What's going on with that land off the South West By-pass (near Quedgeley traffic lights) that was talked about on here some weeks back as a possible new home for City?

Seems like the heavy gang have moved in with some passion recently, and are busy laying down some serious hardstanding or something. I presume it's not for us....

Perhaps the ideal answer would be to be beaten in the play off final and to consolidate next season, assuming there is a next season.

Knowing how perilously tight the financial situation is now, I dont think the club would survive with the extra expense that would result from promotion. That is why I think my bizarre thought in my first paragraph might indeed be ideal.

All,

We are talking about things that may or may not happen, it is better to deal with facts!

1. There is still a lot of football to play for this year so take each one game as it comes and if we are there at the end (which we hope) look at the possibilities then, let’s not get in front of ourselves.

2. If we win promotion the impossible would have been achieved.

3. The club could not afford not to take it due to the additional sponsorship, National coverage, travelling is not that different if we were to be placed in the southern section.

4. Additional larger crowds

5. The board would not let the club get into dept again, this club is well run now.

5. It would attract better players .
