What a bizarre story!

Surely that can't happen in a nation that sprouts out all the time how equality is important.

This is RACISM.

'If the boot was on the other foot' : English spectators (Yes..it might be hard to believe but this is our country) get tickets cheaper tickets than an Asian, Australian or Pole then the club would be branded as racists.

And what are the football club in question doing for Bath’s English population...?

This won't and will not happen. There will be riots.

I'm all for inclusion of minorities and attracting different demographics to games, but I do feel this could set a dangerous precedent if they are just saying 'polish in for £2.50', because that is so left wing that it's verging on being far right wing. The country of your birth should have no bearing on how much you pay for services or attractions anywhere on earth under any circumstances, however, if they were offering discounts to various social or community groups, some of which happened to be run by immigrant communities, then fair enough. I can understand why an immigrant who likes football might not be so forthcoming on attending local games, the amount of shit they get on a daily basis probably puts them off attending events frequented by a majority white male english crowd, so any scheme to encourage their inclusion is good, but needs to be approached sensibly and sensitively...I'm not so sure Bath have been as sensitive about this as they should have been.

Why has this become a race issue? The article talks about students being offered a similar deal, and why don't we rail up against OAPs for paying less while were at it. Because its a business decision, aimed at encouraging certain groups of fans to the game. In this case its a great idea, targetting an untapped potential, and because these communities tend to stick together in an alien land then they are more likely to come together in numbers if they do at all. I know it was something that was looked at in the mid-noughties when we were at MP.

While I can understand the floating fans feeling as if they are missing out, those that really care about their club should look at the longer picture.

Chuckled to see mention of Lord Bear.

I'm disappointed that they didn't quote Lord Bellend, erm, Diablo!

I wouldn't give a toss if they let Ginger people in for a quid, if it meant they would come back, boost the crowd and give Boris a bigger playing budget. Many of us pay full price to get in, and still have standing orders etc to give money to the club for no other reason than to see it prosper. Personally, I wouldn't care if I stood
next to someone who paid less, as I would be there anyway. Half the time I drag someone along I pay for
them anyway, so if I had a few polish mates I would save £9.50!

I don't think you are 'getting it' Shandy.

Look at it this way :

I.e. Gloucester prices

English adult full price £12

Polish adult £2.50

Black Caribbean adult £1

Prices should not be different because you were born someone else - it's discrimination. What happens next? .. Polish pay 20 pence for a loaf of bread in Tesco's whilst born & bred Britains pay full price! It's NOT acceptable and it causes more divide and provokes tensions.

Please let us not forget how the Poles exploit everything they possibly can in this country, this country pays out £2.6 million pounds in child benefits alone to Eastern Europeans which they send back to their homeland!

Shandy

They are not being given a discount because they are Polish but because they are a 'target' market. It is to do with business, and nothing else. If you use your argument then I think football clubs are ageist, ablebodyist and academicalist for offering concessions to other demographic groups. I demand the same.

I hate the PC brigade, but you really are falling into Nick Griffin's trap here.

daveangel
16th March 2011, 20:21
They are not offering a lifelong discount to Poles, they are trying to build a new, as yet untapped fanbase, who they hope would become hooked and return regularly at full price. Maybe you don't "get that" Unk. Or maybe your increasingly biggoted leanings don't allow you to?

The Polish are generally a hard working nation, who came here to do the jobs our feckless, scrounging Jeremy Kyle watching whilst living off state benefits people refuse to do. Those ones being the guys and gals with British passports.

I won't lie, but I dislike foreigners in our homeland exploiting our economic system, erasing our culture and identity, that's the way I am, doesn't make me a racist but down to national pride, which my fore fathers died in their own blood, piss and excrement for.

It should be all the same price for EVERYONE, we all got to survive and struggle in this dying country.

False - they come here to exploit the weak system. Stay here for 12 months and have babies (which will be British) claim every handout they can.

What do you do for a living Mal? In my line of business, every Eastern European I have encountered have been the most hard working and willing workers I have worked with. Sharon calls in sick? Don't call James, call Radoslav, because he will come in and work hard, every day, no questions.

Don't keep putting our people down.

This land was made great with British hands and we have great hard working people. But now that our identity, culture and purpose is being erased by political correctness and left wing destruction, young British people get annoyed and frustrated and they put two fingers up, can't blame them really when they have to compete for causal jobs with the whole of Eastern Europe and the rest that come here.

The question is what are Bath City doing to attract English supporters in their own city. We can't have divided society, it just breeds chaos which is what left wing politics creates.

So you are a lollypop man then? Yes. No.

I merely speak from experience. Obviously there are millions of hardworking, dedicated white Anglo Saxons too. I just mean to stress that you cannot generalise. Not sure what any of this has to do with a club offering an offer to a currently under represented section of their community , but hey:)

Now, I'm 100% with DA and Shandy and their attitude towards Polish immigrants. I think they're brilliant. Everywhere I've worked with them they've done a top job, are friendly, and their women are belters!

BUT Bath's "Poles for £2.50" deal....

...is not comparable to concessionary rates for students, pensioners, or children. Those groups get those rates because they (generally) don't/can't work a full-time job, and are therefore typically not as well off as a working age adult.

It is an interesting deal, and slightly controversial it seems, but if it works for them, I'd be more than happy to see City try it as well. There are a lot of groups we miss in the community, and I know there are people at the club working to get them more involved.

BobCarolgees

I can only speak for the people I work with, I wouldn't have any experience of working alongside people on a building site for instance.

The area of work I'm in means that a lot of the people hail from overseas, a good amount coming from Eastern Europe. All those people are diligent, well educated, prompt for shift and speak the Queen's English far better than a lot of English people I know.

I see English kiddies on Facebook using awful grammar, text speak or gangster talk with no sense of self irony and its just cringe worthy.

If I look through the recent disciplinary action against employees for lateness, persistent absence, poor attitude etc 90% if not more will be English/British born whites from the local area.

The ones from Poland, Czech Republic, former Yugoslavia etc are generally all model employees.

It always annoys me when people bang on with the usual mantras about British culture being destroyed, people coming here not knowing the language, they "all stick their own" and don't integrate.

Sorry but I lived in Spain for 3 years and again the vast majority of Brits living there couldn't string a sentence together in Spanish, walked around like they owned the place, had no regard for the laws of the land and socialised with other Brits, referring to Spaniards as "Spicks" etc. It works both ways.

Back to the point in hand, if it means 300 Polish geezers turn up and make a racket like they do in their own domestic league, and the Polish link gets back to their homeland with a supporters club springing up there then Bath City will be the winners out of all of this.

Spot on Bob, and I guess this is a temporary exercise by Bath, an 'economic experiment'. But I can see why the Daily Mail chose to run with the story, it adds fuel to their underlying political agenda.

I don't think it would take too much more of a global downturn, and the birth of a party sitting not quite as far right as the BNP, for the Mail to become the publicity mouthpiece that would see us have the most right-wing government (outright or in coalition) that we've seen since Victorian times. People never think it will happen, but once it does they will be difficult to shift.

Its not what you are but how you act/behave. As Bob illustrates, most employers want people who want the jobs and work hard at them, doesn't matter what your creed or colour is. Don't get me wrong, I am equally opposed to quotas and other 'allowances' that provide an edge towards non-Brits, that's not fair. But for many the race issue is just an excuse for the workshy and those without any sense of personal responsibility.

tigermatty

Yeah...I couldn't care less where people come from, which is why the principle of charging people set prices according to their nationality offends me, even just as an experiment, I can see what they are trying to do but it's still wrong.
