View Full Version : Seconds lose to bottom club

The Ladies 2nd XI lost 4 - 0 at a wet and windy War Memorial Recreation Ground in Dursley today.
Dursley despite the win are still ninth, with Bristol & West one point above them ,then City who are one point above them. Concerns are that Bristol & West have games in hand, and seem to have found a bit of form.
There some ocassional flashes of good play from City, Lana put in a couple of long passes, Sian and Sandra were playing some great overlaps but it was all too bitty. Dursley stuck at the task and played like a team throughout, where sadly at times we looked like 11 individuals.
All season I have said Dursley were a better team than their League place suggested, at home we were 4 - 0 up at half time and just cling on to win 4-3. They remind me of the Bath City side a few seasons in the SWWFL Premier, that were bottom all season and were relegated but played excellent football and just couldn't perform.
This was probably Dursleys game where they turn their season around, similar to last season when we put 8 past Cam after having a rubbish start to the season.
Lots to talk about at training on Thursday

Bit of a negative headline that Reg, maybe could have been presented better? I'm sure the ladies feel bad enough about it as it is.

At least i don't resort to calling our players a variety of four letter words, as happens on here with City fans.
There are a lot of positives from a very disappointing performance, which is why the last line is relevant.
The title is factual nothing more.

The City fans call the Ladies second XI players a variety of four letter words?? Are you sure?

No, I realise you need everything explaining Neil, I am referring to City AFC fans on this forum who use four letter words to describe the players of the team following loses. My point therefore is that I have only reported the facts, not said this or that player was crap,my only criticism was that the players at times played like 11 individuals instead of a team; we told them that at half time and full time; and offered words of encoragement as well. I also enforced my view to the players that they were forgetting there were two teams on the pitch and the other team are actually a good young team with I believe 4 County players; bearing in mind most of our County players are in the first team we didn't do that badly.
I trust that clears things up for you.

I'm afraid I misunderstood as well Reg, when you said our players I thought you were referring to the ladies rather than the men. This is because I've not seen you at the New Lawn, or even MP for some time, so I assumed you were no longer interested in us?
In any case, please point out where someone has called a City player a 4 letter word, I don't ever recall it. In fact this board very rarely criticises its players, in letters/words of any number. Sometimes we've made opinions as we are entitled to as paying supported, but this has never got nasty.
Unlike the Robins Nest and many other boards I've read.

i believe after speaking to some of the players after sundays match that they were told if they lose this match v dursley they were relegated or most certainly no chance of staying up??
by just looking at the tabke below, and with plenty of games to play there is still a good chance of them staying up!
when i spoke to some of the pleyers they were cetain that they were relegated as they lost, this surely cant be good for team morale telling them this, as they may not wish to continure playin if they knew they had been relegated when they clearly have not!
i still think theres a good chance they can stay up! positive thinking is the key as ive learnt from my freind Beverly Aldridge!

Quite right Kempy, and the effort put in tonight if reflected on Sunday will bring the right result.

I thought you were the County League secretary? Isn't that a conflict of interests if you're giving half time team talks??
Neil, I can see your thinking there, but where do you think the Committee members come from?
The Committee is made up from the League Club nominees; for example last year the manager of the double winning Stoke Lane Athletic was the League Vice Chair; he is Chair this year but has retired from running the team due to ill health, the only person without a club connection is the Referees Appointment Secretary, who is a referee.
The conflict of interests between club and committee CAN come at Committee meetings, at this point Committee members may be asked to leave the room whilst a particular subject is discussed which affects their club.
I'm also our Club Asst Ref, there is no conflict there either on match days; what it does do for the team is give us two view points of the pitch and what is happening; particularly when I am on the far side of the pitch.

Just to put things into perspective with repect to the 2XI.
Point 1.
The ladies were NOT told they would be relegated if they lost to Dursley. They asked where in the table they were so they were told ie
dursley played 9, points 2: Bristol & west played 8, points 6: Glos city played 9, points 7: Tetbury played 6, points 9. They were told that if they won they would move up 2 places. They asked how many go down, definitely the bottom team (and possibly the next one which is down to the League committee at the end of the season). We have everything to play for and can finish a lot higher up the table.
Point 2.
Regcubit does NOT give half time team talks. Sandra and I do that.
Phil helps out by running the line for us. He is a great help to me because if he didn't do it, I would be coaching, being the First Aider, running the line and trying to keep the 2XI positive.
I totally agree in having a positive attitude. So much so, that I got an NLP Performance coach in to help ALL the Ladies (1sts and 2nds) in this. However the majority didn't "buy" into it or couldn't see the point of it, so it stopped.
We can win anything with PMA (positive mental attitude) as I am always driving home to the 2XI. There are enough matches left for us to finish a lot higher up the table but we need to believe it. By showing the three C's, Committment, Concentration and Communication at training and in matches then this will come.
