This is basically continued from the last forum.

Has anyone got anymore idea's for what we could do for this fantastic landmark for the club.

From what I remember we have already suggested:

Youth Tournament
Many 'An Evening with.....' Events
A Match versus a Premiership team (more specifically Spurs)
Maybe a match versus Bristol Rovers
Bringing back the Gloucester City Youth camps
A match between the sides of the Southern League Cup Final between City and Wealdstone
Maybe a free admission day near March 5th 2008
A Special Shirt for next season

Any more suggestions?

I am entirely in favour of this, and it is great that there have been so many creative suggestions, BUT we have to have the experts confer and agree the validity of the date.

I am not one of the experts.

Opinion might be divided as to whether we shall have met the landmark date in 2008. I am trying to bring the historians together to get some clarification.

All being well, we shall have a festival feel to the new season. My only caution on that is that those who reckon that "the club" ought to do this, or that, must be reminded that they are as much of the club as anyone else.

We don't have a fun and games department to initiate, organise and deliver on this, so it behoves us all to be involved if it is to happen. I think Clifty had a posting last week that showed he had grasped this salient point, as I am sure that everyone does.

What about a special 'anniversary' shirt that could be introduced for next season on the current shirts. I think Chelsea had one recently and I know clubs have special shirts for when they play in big matches, such as the FA Cup Final and similar type matches. Just an idea to pick shirt sales up next season as I don't think a change of kit is due...

I think the shirt design for next season is already done, at the Ladies Committee we were looking at several designs, one of which I'm sure had already been selected. The Ladies Committee went for a different design than the mens shirt, we didn't like the black stripes.

How about a supporters 5 a-side tournement with each team containing a first team squad player?

While I understand the point entirely and will help where I can, unfortunately due to distance, lack of money (mature student), it becomes somewhat difficult for me. There is also another aspect, I could write to Tottenham asking them about a match against us for our anniversary, but an official approach from the Club and maybe help from Gloucester's MP will have much more effect. Everyone in the Club must do their bit, but sometimes a request has to be made on "headed paper".

If there is something I could do from distance like send letters to all former players to find out if they would get involved in some event, to canvass their opinions or get their ideas for celebrating the anniversary I would do that.

My ideas/suggestions on the old forum were just that, I will help for the greater cause which is Gloucester City and I am sure my Dad would to.

I love City as much as anyone else, I have supported them since Horton Road, many of today's supporters don't remember those days.

:) :) :)

Your offer to help from distance is terrific, NI-Branch. Once we kick this off, such bits of assistance as yours will help enormously.

Not necessarily true, you never know what medical advances there will be before you hit old age.

I've already been asked by boffins whether they could pickle my brain for medical research and I've also had email correspondence from a group of perverted but hot horny women requesting my cadaver, but only when dead. I pointed out that I can simulate rigor mortis in selected areas of my anatomy right now but they won't be persuaded

Going back to the Wealdstone and Stuart Pearce links, would be nice to get Manchester City down here (if he's still there by then). Did you know that the Gloucester and Cheltenham branch of the Manchester City supporters club is the biggest in the country?????

Knowledge is the bomb!

To be honest if we got any Premiership down here it would be a coup. Whether it's Arsenal or Manchester City, it would still bring a good crowd.

Just to pick up on something you mentioned on the opening post. GCAFCYD already have plans to have an end of season youth tournament. If the club decide to celebrate the 125th anniversary then I am sure that we can link it up with that, but it is something we want to do anyway. Indeed, we had an initial think about getting something sorted for the end of this year as well but we timed out really. A lot of things have happened with GCAFCYD this season, in no small part thanks to the extra publicity the 18s are getting thanks to your match reports. However, there is a lot more to do and I am sure we have some exciting times ahead.

Great to hear Dave :)

Hopefully we may be able to entice some of the larger youth teams from Premiership or Championship teams to enter the tournament.
