Unless my records are incorrect tonight, if selected, will be Tom Webb's 400th Gloucester City appearance.

Amazing achievement to reach 400 games by the age of 26(?). How many could he reach if he stays fit and with us??

It's 399 according to the Cleric, although not sure where we differ because I've added in the expunged Atherstone game from August 2003. I think I'll just have to get the old toothcomb out....

We vary with this
Date: Monday 28/03/2005
Result: GLOUCESTER CITY 0 CIRENCESTER TOWN 0
Competition: Southern League Premier Division
Teamsheet: Bath, Smith, CD Thompson, Griffiths, Tomkins, Burns, Mustoe, Harris, DS Addis, Knight, Wilkinson
Substitutes: MP Thompson (for Griffiths), Webb (nps), Reid (nps), Varnham (for Wilkinson), Bennett (nps)
Attendance: 523
I have him as a playing substitute, he has him as a non-playing sub. My TR match report (http://www.whiteacrescaravan.co.uk/tr/reports_20042005_march05.php) of the time shows that he replaced Keith Knight and even gets a mention in the report
If bookings were goals then we'd have been well entertained as it became 5-2 to City when cumbersome striker Gareth Hopkins earned a caution for his trip on Lee Smith. From the free kick Smith fed Tom Webb down near the goalline and after beating the defender the substitute cut back a delightful pass for Thommo, who with the goal at his mercy managed to scoop the ball over the bar. That was Chris' second miss from virtually the same spot in the last two games at Meadow Park.
I therefore declare myself right ;)

Our records vary from the 2001/02 season too, Tim has Tom as 16 apps 10 subs 0 gls (5 nps) and I have 17 starts and 9 subs.
The game that stands out appears to be this one, with Tim's team as
Date: Tuesday 29/01/2002
Result: GLOUCESTER CITY 1 CHIPPENHAM TOWN 1
Competition: Southern League Western Division
Teamsheet: Bath, Steadman, Marshall,
Griffiths, McCluskey, Prince, Burns, Jenkins,
Bayliss, LF Smith, M Cook
Substitutes: Webb (nps), Hampson (nps), Archer
(nps)
Scorer: Bayliss
Attendance: 307
Whilst mine is quite different with
Bath Webb Marshall Griffiths Steadman McCluskey Burns Wilkinson Bayliss (1) Smith Prince
Cook (nps) Hampson (14) Howard (nps)
There is also the game at Halesowen later in the season, Tim's team as follows
Date: Saturday 13/04/2002
Result: HALESOWEN TOWN 0 GLOUCESTER CITY 0
Competition: Southern League Western Division
Teamsheet: Bath, Steadman, Marshall,
Griffiths, Wilkinson, McCluskey, Burns,
Jenkins, Thompson, Hoskins, Prince
Substitutes: LF Smith (for Thompson), Webb
(for Marshall), Howard (nps)
Attendance: 777
and mine
Bath Steadman Marshall Griffiths Wilkinson McCluskey Burns Jenkins Thompson Hoskins Prince
Smith (nps) Webb (nps) Howard (nps)
Even though it won't alter his record breaking appearance it's something that needs to be tidied up!

This is good, this is excellent. In the introduction to my book I did emphasise that it is highly unlikely that the publication would be error free and that it was incumbent on a statistician to accept that sometimes he may be wrong. Dealing with literally thousands of bits of information from 1883 onwards it is likely to happen.
However, one of the reasons for publishing was to unearth anomalies like this so that in the end the correct information is arrived at and that future generations will have the benefit of superb records which did not exist before.
Also in my introduction I did make the plea that any information that would enhance the records for current and future statisticians of the Club would be gratefully received as it will help to keep as best a comprehensive record of Gloucester City AFC as we can muster and since publication this has been the case.
Far from being embarrassed I have been delighted at the response I have received. Therefore, I am happy to accept Neil's report of the match although the Official Programmes after the Cirencester game did not seem to acknowledge Tom Webb's part in it.
Therefore I am happy to acknowledge tonight, if selected, Tom Webb will make his 400th competitive appearance and Lee Smith his 350th. This thread can only be a victory for Team Statistician in the end.

Any thoughts on the mismatch in post #9 Cleric? I think I may have copied mine from the middle pages of the match programme, although I'm also sure I have the Citizen report here so I shall check....

Inasmuch that the official programme had him recorded as a NPS. The Citizen report should clinch it.

Great achievement by both of these players. Along with Muzzie, they have really been the backbone of this club for a decade now.

With regard to the Halesowen game of 13/04/2002 it was my observation that in many cases The Citizen did not always mention the subs that came on in their reports. The line-up in the centre pages of the official programme after this match concurs with my line-up ie - Bath, Steadman, Marshall (Webb), Griffiths, Wilkinson, McCluskey, Burns, Jenkins, Thompson (Smith), Hoskins, Prince - sub not used Howard - and I am inclined to accept that.
However, if we accept the Chippenham line-up in The Citizen which is at odds with the official programme line-up it surely adds an extra fixture to Tom Webb's appearances and therefore his 400th may have been against Stafford Rangers!!!!!! This makes my Tom Webb's 2001/02 record as 17 appearances 10 subs which lines up with T-Enders stats for him. The plot thickens.

I know there was a spell, 1993ish when my brother was doing the Citizen reports that he was terrible at adding in substitutes, but I always kept my own kind of records at the time and also the middle pages of the programme were spot on. I've always been disappointed that the club doesn't seem to have these kind of records.

They have now and...they will get better.
