3-2 win for the city :)

Ciren lost today. If, sorry, when we beat them on monday they are pretty much down.

Then Harris can plan for next season by stealing Smithy and maybe the keeper off them

Happy days

...we won 3-2 after taking an early 2 goal lead - we were playing well, using the whole pitch, creating chances, unstoppable - Rugby should have been on the coach home at half-time, but we let them get back into it... 2-1, 3-1, 3-2, ... we should have had a late penalty shen a Rugby defender virtually carried the ball our of their box.

Webb came on as a sub 2nd half for Wilko (who got a yellow card for too many bad challenges), then ran Rugby ragged down the right side - they didn't know what to do with him ... Ade made an appearence late on - he's still got what it takes...

overall, good stuff, but we're still leaking goals and making it hard for ourselves when we should have the game killed off... all makes for entertainment, but we'd rather have good wins

Ciren lost again - not looking good for them ... and looking good for us on Monday!

We seem to concede late goals quite often and make life difficult for ourselves, is this due to a lack of fitness in the squad or laziness/lack of focus

A win's a win and it's a little disappointing that it wasn't more emphatic after the start we had but it's pushing us closer to the top ten finish that Tim wants and we're building well for next season.

Personally I though Neil Mustoe had his best game in a long time today and considering he was singled out when he played poorly I think he should be praised as much when he does well. Keep it going Muzz!

I caught Syko's goal perfectly and just recording it to HD counted that he scored 30 seconds from kick off. Well done Rugby

It was also a great morning for the GCAFCYD with the 12's getting one of the best results of the season. Check out the youth forum for more details.

Bob, you are a long way wide of the mark with your comments I think

I thought it was a bit sloppy to be honest, although it was a lovely result in the sunshine! After 20 mins I thought it would be an absolute drumming, but as mentioned earlier in the season I think we should shoot more, and close down quicker. We also need a 'creative' midfielder...

That all sounded a bit downbeat, but my god was it better than the last home match I went to against KL! Looking good for the future.... my wife asked me when I got home what the crowd were singing?

Barmy Army... Barmy army... er.... barmy army..... :)

Good win against a side who weren't that bad themselves to be honest. In the first half City looked by far the better team and deservedly took a 2 goal lead but by half time it looked a bit nervy as Rugby got a goal back. The second half saw much the same but when it was back to 3-2 it was certainly a long 20 odd minutes until the final whistle.

Agree Neil, and I did tell him that in the Clubhouse after the game.

I thought Jimmy cox had one of his best games in ages today, not quite sure when I have seen him more committed.

I think the comment about fitness is a fair one to ask in truth, always strikes me as odd the amount of hard running we do on a fairly hot day before the game has even started. Chris T at the end looked really tired but then he was up against a pacy winger all afternoon.

Buttery's passing today was not as good as normal and Shaxton, jurys still out for me on him considering what we have on the bench.

Rugby did hit the post and had a pretty easy chance inside the box towards the end so if it had ended 3-3, might no have been a huge surprise.
As Tom webb made such an impact, wonder why he didnt play from the start ?
See that Welches got full body armour on over his shoulder, bet hes looking forward to the close season for a bit of recovery time.

He's 18 and looks very quick, can play anywhere across the front line and could well develop into a very good option up front if he's give time on the pitch.

Webby has been nursing a sore back, and yes, he did look very good when he came on.

Matt Shaxton's starting to remind me of Michael Whittington.

Like Whitts once did, he's been starting and keeping experienced strikers on the bench, causing some people to doubt Tim's judgement. He's young and incredibly fast, and seems to be adjusting slowly to SLP football. Scored a nice poachers goal yesterday (like Whitts did at Merthyr). I want to see him hit a good shot or two, but I certainly think he's got potential.

Great to see Coxy back to his best too. We were just too fast for them.

Buttery was a bit off today but I really like Shaxton, he looks and plays like Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Shaxtan Ibrahimovic!

Matt Shaxton's first 90 minutes up front, and I thought it very encouraging. Anyone remember Steve Baddock ? Do you see any resemblance ? Matt might be a touch more aggressive. If he were to turn out to be as successful it would be great.

Well done to the ref for playing the advantage which led to our third goal, and then going back and booking the Rugby player, not often you see that at this level.

Though Rugby looked more comfortable on the ball than us and passed well especially around the City penalty area ...

Rugby were unlucky in respect that they hit the inside of the post at 3-2 and the ball just wouldn't cross the line. But lucky in respect that when the ref gave great advantage for City's third goal - he could have sent their defender off, and also for the clear-cut handball near the end. The ref also set-up Ruggers second goal with a neat little flick off his arse

Mustoe with his cool control and Tompkins powerful heading both played well. Just a pity we can't hold onto the ball for longer periods. Just about deserved the win

Anyone remember Steve Baddock ?

Yes RIP Steve Badock

One of a series of City Striking Steves during the 80s with Steve 'mullet' Westerberg, Steve 'Bullet' Johnson being two of the most memorable.
