Very sorry to hear about this. The very best of luck to Sam for a speedy recovery. Meantime, the very best of luck to Tim in trying to cope.

It's a very bad injury apparently. I think we can all see how Sam is one of the club's rising stars and it's a blow to us, but at his age it's a terrible blow to him and his aspirations.

It just gets better, when you are down on your luck it is against you, can we end this awful season now!

No we can't do that. If we end it now then we'd be relegated!

Such a shame. I felt he was becoming an established first teamer. Major blow for the Under 18's side as well.

I wish him a speedy recovery.

Just when you thought the broken ankle was bad news I've just been told that it's his leg too :(

And typically he did it playing rugby

I got to know Sam through my son playing with the U18's and he is a genuinely nice lad. I am very sorry to hear this news and wish him the very best for a speedy recovery.

Youth teamer? I think that'll be the case the way things are going....

Sam is a lad with great potential who has impressed so many people both on and off the pitch. It is a real downer to have an injury like this and everybody at GCAFCYD sends him their best wishes. He is also a very determined lad who I am absolutly sure will be back in the City squad once he is recovered.

Kenny tells me he is due to come out of hospital soon and we all hope to ss him at the match v Gala Wilton on Sunday.

It's not just the first team that have had injuries, the U15 squad have not had the best of luck either with broken toes, ankles, hands and goodness knows what else. Please spare a thought for one lad in particular, Brandon Preece who played his first match yesterday after recovering from a broken hand that required an operation only to fall victim to a 2 footed tackle after only 2 mins resulting in a broken ankle. Like Sam, Brandon is a good prospect with bags of ability and an eye for goal. He will be back better and stronger than ever, of that I have no doubt.

Keep smiling lads, you will both be back on the score sheet soon.

David M on behalf of all at GCAFCYD

Matt Sysum is indeed a member of the Under 18 squad

The thing with youth football is that it takes many years of hard work and effort by players, parents and coaches before a promising 11 year old prospect makes it all the way to the first team. GCAFCYD is no quick fix solution, but we are without any shadow of doubt a major part of the long term future of the club. We have got some tremendous young talent on our books at the present time who are being looked after by a coaching set up which I am prepared to say is probably the best in depth group we have had in the history of GCAFC. People in the football community are begining to take more notice of what we are doing and while GCAFC may not have the kudos of being linked to a League or Conference club (and neither do we benefit from the financial support that goes with the higher league status), some of the best local talent are starting to look in our direction as a viable alternative to develop their football career.

GCAFCYD is the part of GCAFC which goes about its business unnoticed by the majority - but in these times when luck seems to have deserted us - its perhaps of value to mention that there are good things going on that will, in time, be of enormous benefit to our club.

Speaking of Youth Teamers....I reckon TH should give Jack Overthrow a run out in the First team. He very much reminds me of Lee Smith, but he's alot more consistent. Another guy who's impressed me is Alex Cuthbert, a big, tall striker who could cause alot of havoc in the Southern League.
