Sitting naked in my hottub with a bottle of whisky, cigar, and fish nibbling gently at my toes this seems to be a good result away and with a weakened side. Three points would be nice but good to keep the unbeaten run going.
Anyone know anything about this new chap?

Count the number of "first teamers" missing for one reason or another and this is another good result - keeps the unbeaten run going

Michael Noakes is spending another saturday night in hospital but you have to feel for Webby, his injury looked and is turning out to be terrible :(

Not a great spectacle , biggest positive is we didn't lose I guess. The new lad from Hartpury looked quite assured, Seddon looked okay in goal.
They had a fella sent off after about 30minutes or so, we didn't really capatilse though apart from the goal. Ref was calling up for too many niggly challenges and none apparent pushing. Sykes had a great 25 yard effort tipped over and Seddon had to make a decent save midway through the 2nd half.
Goal came from a corner that Smithy headed across goal from the back post that Thomas slotted away.
Real shame that Webby and Noakesy have gone to hospital following their clash of heads. All the best to them, didn't sound like great news from Mr Tandy's diagnosis.

That sounds awful!
Not a pretty spectacle today. I felt we didn't really capitalise on Clevedon's sending off (there should've been another straight after as well). Muzzy had a very solid game yet again...Player of the Season so far in my opinion.
Hitchin are below us in the Table so lets hope we can turn them over next Saturday which would be a very important result for the Club.

1-1 for all the fans who didnt travel may sound alright enough, however it wasnt. They were down to 10 men (should have been 9) early on but we didnt take the game to them and wasted the huge opportunity we had to grab a win. We had some moments, a goal line scramble in the dying few minutes and Sykes rasping shot in the 2nd half. Other than that not a lot and that say a lot really. You would have thought it was us who had 10 men. We really do lack that little bit of quality and it was obvious again today as we continually gave the ball away and played stupid balls.
Obviously hope both Webby and Noakes are ok. Also fair play to Allard hes come in for some stick and on some occasions rightly so, but I think he looked composed when he came on today and was putting some good balls in.
Onwards and upwards I guess, but we still have a lot to do.

Anyway we got a point despite being a goal down, probably didn't deserve to be but still City had to fight back and that they did well. Away support was excellent as usual and it would have been nice to get maximum points but sometimes the luck isn't there, hopefully it will come good at Hitchin

FFS I used to watch FGR regularly in front of crowds that would easily fit into the toilet blocks at the New Lawn and they played against equally unattractive teams back then, but it was enjoyable, as it is watching Gloucester City.
Maybe one day you'll realise that it's about your own team and not the opposition.

Always Cheltenham for us, always will be. Yes your in the conference-whoppedy doo, and as for your attendances-well they are hardly something to bleat on about! In the season you won the dr martens league you took 50, yes 50, to meadow park near the end of the season. Mickey mouse league or not, we take 300 to your lego land that passes off for a ground. You always will be the little club on the hill..with fans from the hills have eyes.

We all know that success isn't instant and people need time to get a squad together. I feel he's that man, and so does the majority.

there is no point in this kicking off because there is no reason to do so. each club is now quite a bit apart and going through different 'times' at the moment. FGR are achieving succesfully as a small club in the BSP meanwhile city are struggling with the completely unexpected 8 foot flooding of their ground.
tim harris is probably the only guy who can get gloucester city out of the **** there in. firstly if it is true that he works for free then he deserves better results on the pitch from what he is getting! secondly he has the experience - in his time at FGR he kept the club up i believe with being forced to release quite a few northern based players because i guess they could be quite expensive although i'm not sure whether that is the true facts.
the gloucester vs. FGR rivalry is apparently quite old after the days in the 1980's i believe? but obviously nothing can beat the cheltenham vs. gloucester rivalry. and nothing would of beaten the FGR vs. shortwood rivalry a few years back but times have moved on and the fans probably want someone new to target as a rival and the fact that city now share with FGR at the new lawn probably doesn't help things!
i don't have much against gloucester and to some FGR fans i'm apparently one of your fans but there you go! and regarding attendances ours are okay but not good but to be fair yours aren't brilliant either when you take in to consideration the size of gloucester although eggchasing doesn't help that cause. ours are on the up though and our average will be even better if we pull in a few at home to rotherham utd tomorrow - hopefully we'll see a few of you coming down to watch fleetwood show his true magic against a league team...:)

All this is getting a bit like a school playground, Jimmy telling Johnny that "Gary doesn't like you, he thinks you smell".
Or in this case, "Oi Gloucester City - Forest Green don't like you they think you are rubbish." At the end of the day we ain't rivals (in my opinion), I don't mind Forest Green, they have a redeeming feature for me that is super ex Tranmere midfielder James Harvey as manager.

I'm sure everyone at Clevedon would like to pass on their best wishes to Messrs Noakes and Webb, the two lads who suffered that terrible clash of heads in the tenth minute. It looked really nasty and I was surprised one of them, Noakes ?, actually came back on the pitch heavily bandaged for a minute or two before going off again. Meant to say hello to Neil at the match yesterday but every time I saw him he seemed to be taking photos of food as if he was doing one of those glossy brochures for Marks and Sparks or Asda...! Anyway as I said hope your two lads make a full recovery and we'll see you in April.

I think that the FGR fans should just stick to their own forum, we don't care what happens at FGR, we don't want to know that you don't like us and we don't want to know what they think about of team or management.
We don't go on their forum and start threads about ex-Gloucester players playing for the opposition or how their manager should be sacked, so please, leave us alone.

Whilst quite a few of us might not like the question, for someone outside of the club, it perhaps is a fair question to ask, we are second bottom after all.
and whilst I dont agree, I think Tim Harris is the man for us, we perhaps should not get all shirty just because someone else asks ?
There will probably be a point at some point in the season, say if this was to carry on past xmas, where may be most of us will have the same thought ?
hopefully we wont but when i watched clueless defenders playing percentage balls into the box against ten men yesterday, i thought not surprising we are where we are. We should have run the ten men ragged yesterday over 60 mins. As for taking people on, Lee smith or nothing it seems and I dont think he did that well yesterday, his fault for the goal against us and that old left back held his own against him. nothing against Lee, just not his best game ever. I didntthink that Clevedon were very good yesterday and they are not too many games when I have been able to say that about the opposition so far, needed to win than one, hope that doesnt cost us.
Still being an Ipswich fan as well . . . . . . and sat opposite a Bristol city fan at work:D

i honestly don't think that too much can be read into yesterdays result. That was a far cry from our best 11. Take the defender who played yesterday for example. Signed on Thursday night, never trained with the players, didn't even know the players names, yet came in with a fairly decent display. Elliot in goal. First league start for the club. Whitts and Pitcher both injured. Lyndon injured, Ricco injured, Hamblin unavailable, Webby and Noaksey both injured after 10 mins. Reidy Suspended, Sawyer suspended............

Thats a fair point clifty but if you go through that list, not too many creative midfield players in it and I think that was the key yesterday, someone needed to get on the ball/take someone on and come up with a killer pass, dont think we have someone like that in our squad ? although may be sam ellis could be that man, not sure? ?

I had this down i think for a draw as clevedon were as high as 9th i think before start of play but then when i saw today they played 60 mins with ten men i was a bit gutted but then i didnt go for a change so cant say alot really! big games coming up........

12th November 2007, 12:40 AM
I have to say that going 1-0 down away from home against a team 10 or so places above you in the league when you've got your two central defenders out, your two best strikers out, your number 1 keeper out, and 2 of your only pacy players going off injured early on (which forces you to make 2 subs, making it near impossible to make any meaningful tactical changes late on), and still getting a point is a good result.
Yes I'm ignoring the fact that they went down to 10 men, but we all know that a numbers advantage isn't always a good thing, as teams tend to rather shut up shop. It's also rather hard to take advantage of when you've only got one player on the pitch with any decent amount of speed (Smithy). Noakes, Webby, Pitch and Whitts all out leaves us looking rather slow, but I suppose that's just bad luck.
The period from now up until Christmas will make or break our season. Hitchin is a hard place to go and win, but we'll do our best. But the series of home games following it gives us the perfect opportunity to put a run together and fire ourselves into mid-table. I don't want to think about what will happen if we don't achieve that....

We had around 6 players out on Saturday and we done enough to win the game, Sykes had 2 very good efforts, Bevan missed an open goal in the first half and their was two/three goal mouth scrambles, the 10 men debate does not add up, how many times have we been down to 10 men and we have come away with a result, i still remain that we will finish half way at the end of the year which would have been agreat year with all the injuries and the problems off field that we have had
CompostBin
12th November 2007, 04:30 PM
Injuries are part and parcel of football, it bugs me when people say "ahh but we had x, y and z out", well, most Clubs suffer injuries at any and all points in the season. A successful result is more than the starting XI, it's the whole setup and squad behind it.
I think the Clevedon result was a good one on paper, but we're average away from home and ****e at home, we need wins. I don't know what the answer is other than to piss in every corner of FGR, but the table (the thing that decides how good we really are) is showing us to be piss poor and as I've said in the past that does boil down to all the people involved in the first team.
Neil
12th November 2007, 04:43 PM
You're a hard person to please Compost Bin!
If you were at Clevedon you'd possibly agree that we were the liklier team to win and that was with half a team out against a side that has got good results against many teams this season. Look at the table if you like, it only really matters at the end of the season.
As for injuries, they've robbed us of two players who had they been on the field may well've added the finishing touch but the manager chose not to risk them in case they made themselves worse.
We'll be fine, there are very few teams in this league that are anything special.

I'm not hard to please :) I've been watching City long enough to know that success will never really happen, I just go along for the ride.
The season is now well and truly in motion, mini-tables are starting to appear at the top and bottom, ourselves in the relegation battle. Personally, my expectations are never too high but this pre-season I was full of optimism.
Again, no offence to people on here (I appear to be in a minority), but I think there is some denial going on ... the table tells me differently. We've been saying we'll be fine for weeks now and we've only slipped further.

I remember these debates when we got relegated last time from the Prem. Mind you a centre half pairing of Brian Hughes and Steve Ferguson didn't helped in terms of pace or mobility.
This dude was right to ask the question I feel. Unlike me to move outside of my totalitarian views on postings, but shall on this instance. Everyone seems to be thinking 'it'll be ok in May'. Historically, this a nonsense ;)

Always puzzled by the fact we can can beat Bromsgrove 4-1 away and Yate 5-1 away and then struggle so badly. We have a good team on paper and a great manager. The simple solution is to play Adie Harris every match
