Just got delivered a copy today, for those who dont know its a freebie type affair full of adverts, pensioners recipes and of course the blogs of the parish. Anyway here is it what is in the latest edition;the title made my blood boil before anything else!!!!!!
Tigers belong in a Jungle, do they belong in Quedgeley?
Over nearly 10 years ago a 14 acre area of land on the waterwells area has seen a lot of behind the scenes work. The area was given to the people of Quedgeley along with £174,000 by the developer, Pearce Devlopment, for the benefit of Quedeley people. It had taken nearly 8 years to get together sufficent funding for the waterwells sports & recreation centre to come to frution, which totalled £589,828.
A lot of work was undertaken by many different groups to make it happen and the "icing on the cake" came with a grant of £301,228 from the football foundation in March 2006. Work started on the preparation of the site, levlling the area, installing drainage etc in September 2006, this work alone cost £172,600 and nearly the whole of the developers contribution, and money had to found to build the new changing rooms, which cost £355,000. The expenditure has provided 2 full size football and 2 mini soccer pitches and in addition land has already been ear marked for a cricket square, archery and the two ponds there may be adapted for fishing, both by abled and disabled.
Now it appears that the city council feel it would appear to be a good site to allow a new stadium and home for "the tigers", Gloucester City AFC, re their press release 17th October and the large amount of coverage in the Citizen the same day. We at Quedgeley news find it hard to understand that as the land was given to the people of Quedgeley and the site was intended as public open space for the benefit of the residents of Quedgeley, not just for football it want until Monday 15th, 2 days before the public announcement, that the plan was discussed with the Parish council, who we had thought had been given a 50 year lease on the land by the city council, for them to manage it and provide much needed open space in Quedgeley. Surely allowing a semi professional football club to become resident on the site doesn't do that, itjust means more traffic and coaches in that area on home match days. Let us know how you, resident of Quedgeley, feel about it?
