I hope FIFA see sense and give us the cup purely so we don't have walk the qualifying campaign only to be disappointed again. Think Becks may have won it for us.

If we do win it then they have got to give that man a knighthood.

I agree. He's been a true ambassador this week, and really gets the Worldwide media eating out of the palm of his hand.
I never thought I'd ever say it, but if we do get the World Cup then he more than deserves a knighthood.

One big stich up from start to finish!

If it was an even playing field then thats a major disappointment.
In a way I'm glad it going to Russia and not a joint bid, but it's still going to be shit.
Doesn't it snow in Russia in June / July?

I'm glad the World Cup is going to Russia. A country that doesn't suffer from hooliganism, corruption, organised crime, Muslim fundamentalist terrorists and radioactive assassinations. Well done Fifa!

In situations like this we must look for victories, no matter how small. Although England only got 2 votes the Aussies only got 1* :)

I can't believe that we only got two votes. Didn't we have a superb presentation? We might as well have shown them an episode of Dads Army.

For the sake of 2 measly votes we should have sent Boris Johnson out in a Sun St George bowler hat, holding a fag and swigging from a can of Carling shouting down the microphone that "England is f***ing great, give it to us".

The bookies will be happy as all the money was for England and they were very short to win it by the time it was announced.

It's about time The FA realised that sending the team round the world to play pointless friendlies to win favour is a waste of time, Jack Warner = liar.

This is one of the most annoying things, especially how he attacked us a few years ago and then all we've done since is pander to him. If I was the FA, i'd cut all ties with him. Backstabber.

This hasn't come as a surprise as from day one Blatter has wanted the World Cup in Russia and has used his influence to ensure it happened. Having the best technical bid seems to count for nothing these days...

It would appear that regardless of how morally right it was for the press to expose the bribes etc it was the major factor in the downfall of the bid. Fifa is not a democratically elected government, they are answerable to no one so there's nothing to be achieved by exposing their corrpution before the vote.

Its about time that FIFA and all of their workings were answerable to someone.

I find myself surprised at how un othered I am - good luck to Russia. predictably many are looking for scapegoats, let's just get on with it and not be bad losers. On the plus side we will no longer lose 2 years of competitive fixtures.
One thing I will say, though, is that we would have got it under a Labour Government.

Russia getting 2018 hasn't annoyed me so much, they have reasons for deserving it. What makes the result look like a joke is Qatar getting 2022 and England only obtaining 2 votes (1 if you consider that Geoff Thompson's would have gone to us).

More money to pay for the Royal Wedding and the 2012 Olympics I guess..................
